Honestly everyone I know has recommended these books to me. So I finally cracked and decided to read the series. I saw the movie a long time ago, so I could connect the dots about what would happen. Frankly, I liked the author's style and writing better than the book itself. It was an okay story, but I like Lemony Snicket's tone. He'd use big fun words (well not always big but still fun) and then give descriptions of them and constantly just talk directly to the reader.
But hey look I can finally tell people I'm reading the books.

Probably my favorite so far in the series. It's incredibly action and the definition of a page turner. I loved Minerva as Artemis's adversary and the last couple of pages of the book was one of the best endings so far. I literally laughed out loud.
I enjoyed it more than the first. Lemony Snicket's writing style continues to grow on me.
Sometimes I feel like I started reading this series too old. Most people start it in elementary school. However the characters remain engaging and the story tragic, but intriguing. Frankly the moment I feel in love with this book was the very end when Snicket says 'And the moral of World War One is never assassinate Archduke Ferdninad.' It had nothing to do with the story at all, but being the history dork I am it made me giggle.
Wow. This series honestly gets better and better. Looking over the reviews I noticed someone compared this series to the Uglies (trilogy, because the fourth one is okay but doesn't really fit in well) and it's so true. Except The Hunger Games is definitely more sinister and evil. Anyway I couldn't stop reading this book, it was so addictive. Although I'm considering buying the third one since it's a 300 person wait at the library.
I picked this up after reading on the back that it was about Anastasia Romanov. Being the giant history dork that I am, I love the Russian Revolution. The story of the Romanovs is interesting and frightening, and the revolution is just simply fascinating. Surprisingly the book was pretty historically accurate (besides the romance, of course) which people tend to avoid when discussing Anastasia (see the animated movie, which I like but... is completely wrong). I liked the insight into the Romanov's life in imprisonment. It was also written very well. The beginning sounds like a young girl and you can tell by the language how Anastasia grows and matures even if her family fails to see it.
I wish I could give a sixth star. The perfect ending to a perfect series. Now let's make this into a movie!
I read halfway through this book then went to go see him talk, where he kind of gave away the ending. I still enjoyed it, however I felt like it was just a set up for the second book. Which I guess it should be in a series, but I felt like it took so long for Alek and Deryn to meet, and there wasn't a very specific plot. However this book was really interesting. I loved the illustrations, it was so fascinating and definitely added to the story. I want to go into Scott's brain, because he comes up with fantastic ideas. The Clankers vs. Darwinists as the opponents in WW1 is really fascinating. But I'm interested in how the series progresses, considering Germany/Austria-Hungary loses and the conflict isn't solved until WW2. But yeah, I really liked it.
