3 stars exclusively because I had NO CLUE what was happening. I don't necessarily believe that's the author's fault, I think I just got bogged down in the details and new characters that I got lost.

of the four SH books I've read so far I think this is my favorite. But why didn't River get
thrown in the Thames in the show??!!!!? missed opportunity.

not sure if this is a popular sentiment but I do like Emma Flyte and tbh in excited to see her in the next book. maybe I'll changed my mind on that in London Rules but idk! I like her!

Not sure if I have anything of substance to say but I liked this one a lot and am so excited to get to the next one since it hasn't been adapted yet

Ok! Um so far I don't particularly love any of the books I've read In the series. Yes, I have been breezing through the series faster than I have any other series, but I just. I don't know. Once I finish the book I'm like "Ok, that was decent", but no feelings really stick.

The thing that has me sticking through it my love for the show characters, and desire to get inside their head— to know who they are as people more than the show is able to portray (Catherine my beloved 🥺♥️). And seeing what content they cut/changed will always be interesting to me. Honestly, though, the show is better! The book has its moments, but I feel like any changes the show made improved upon rather than detracted from the story. I'm looking forward to reading #5 and onwards, since that's just like, fully new content to me, but so far I feel that the show just took the books and made them better

other than finding the arkady pashkin plotline really boring I did fly thru this. Also, shocked by how much they changed about the entire Upshott sequence in the show. I'm curious about why they made the changes they did, when they've been otherwise pretty faithful to the source material. I didn't dislike the changes but it is quite different.

And I feel so immature for this but I swear, every time lamb farted in response to something I died 😭 lamb fart counter: 4 farts

anyway, here are some quotes I liked:

“I’ll do it,” River said again.
“For Christ’s sake, this is MI5, not a kiddies’ playground. Operational decisions don’t turn on who says bagsies. I decide who goes.” Lamb counted them off from the right. “Eenie meenie minie mo.” At mo, his finger rested on River. He moved it back to Shirley. “Meenie. You’re it.”
River said, “I was mo!”
“And I don’t base operational decisions on children’s games. Remember?"

Whatever you thought of Lamb’s act, nobody ever accused his farts of lacking authenticity.

It was nice to be close to him, but it would have been nicer to be close somewhere spacious enough to be further apart.

Lamb said, “That was cute. If this was a film you’d let your hair down now and I’d say, but Miss Standish, you’re beautiful.”
“No, if this was a film I’d stake you through the heart, and you’d disappear in a cloud of dust.

“But at least we know now.”
“At least we know now.”
“Thanks to me.”
“Yeah yeah. Thanks to you.”
“I’ll take that as a pat on the head then.”
“Pat pat,” Louisa said.

Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain

John J. Ratey

DID NOT FINISH: 30%

so apparently I'm just not all that interested in the physiology of exercise lol. I found myself skimming over all the scientific explanations of the benefits of exercise, but that's a good 75% of the book.
