Yeah so I wasn’t a huge fan of this at all. Natasha is back again, this time she’s more boring than ever…I was really expecting this to be more of a spy thriller from the description, but it was just Natasha complaining for 6 issues (which is very ooc imo). Natasha has virtually no personality in here whatsoever…and she’s really bad at espionage for some reason. She literally fucks up the job she’s been groomed to do since she was a baby every issue. And her and Maria’s “friendship” is also highly ooc, bc these two have literally tried to kill each other using Morse code before

*2.75

This series was really underwhelming, unfortunately. The overall villian was pretty stupid in my opinion, and such a weird villain for Natasha (who’s a normal human (with the super soldier serum, obviously)) to have. And the way she defeated the villain was honestly pathetic. All this build up for absolutely, nothing to happen. The only issues I actually enjoyed were the last two, which were very unnecessary and not at all related to the plot of this story. They were flashback scenes to when Nat was still a KGB assassin for the Red Room, and they were easily the two best issues in here. Those two issues reminded me why I love Black Widow. She’s ruthless and she’s unapologetic abt it. Without those issues, this easily would have been a low two stars.

Anyways, this is definitely not a series I really enjoyed. The art was very beautiful though, and it’s really the only thing I can say I fully enjoyed throughout this story. The sketch mark & watercolor style is some of my favorite comic book art ever so I would read from this artist again. But I will not heavily recommend this series to any kind of Black Widow fan. Disappointed, but not surprised after reading the other two volumes /:

THE HUMOR WAS ABSOLUTELY PEAK IN THIS!! Hawkeye—a character who can’t take anything seriously—and the Winter Soldier—a character who takes everything seriously—reluctantly team up to search for Natasha Romanov who they both believe (one reluctantly and one not) to be alive after she dies (which is due to the fuckery that was Secret Empire). Clint is so fucking funny, and it was so nice to have that kind of humor on page with Bucky, who I love, but he’s such a broody character that it’s more so a gritty mystery than fun.

I loved Bucky and Clint’s relationship. It was very much blonde best friend, brunette best friend 2012 Tumblr era to me. I really enjoyed the plot, and I surprisingly was sated without the appearance of (spoiler???) Nat until later in comic. Clint’s humor and the Bucky/Clint relationship was easily the best parts of this. I’m a little disappointed though, because I didn’t love the overall plot with Red Room. It felt very surface level, and not explained very well. I’m still a bit confused about the whole thing. Granted there isn’t much you can do with A mini series, especially one that’s 4 issues. But I still didn’t love it.

But overall, I really enjoyed reading this. Not my favorite Black Widow story ever, but it definitely something I would recommend!

This was a very well written Natasha story. Nothing particularly groundbreaking, but it had my favorite marvel couple featured again (Winterwidow, Black Widow x Winter Soldier), Yelena Belova, and also my favorite Black Widow villain. Nothing was particularly new, and I felt like I have read this story before, but I really enjoyed the cast of characters featured.

I simply can’t do this anymore. Not only is the writing reminding me of wattpad, but the hero is so fucking annoying and alpha, and the heroine is a complete doormat. Wouldn’t recommend

This was just really really bad and it really read like early 2010s YA fantasy. The romance was disgusting (the scenes at the beginning felt very non- consensual to me if you know what I’m talking about) the characters were so unlikable. Shazi felt like a wannabe Katniss Everdeen who doesn’t actually act and instead tells everyone she can kill them…inside her head of course. (Which sounds a lot like Celaena Sardothien from TOG…)

The love triangle was so stupid and unneeded since it was basically casted from the synopsis who our MC is gonna end up with. Speaking of love triangles, the side characters in here had 0 goals or personality other than to “save” Shazi. Obsessed much? The men in here really prove the word simp is real.

The world building is awful; making me look back at a dictionary for words from another language isn’t world building and it felt like I was reading about a world with a lot of sand. After two times a word in italics popped up I said “screw it” and stopped looking back at the dictionary. I didn’t miss much.

Writing was also pretty bad with over descriptions of characters that are mentioned once / add 0 to the story and the flowery metaphors made me wanna gag. Overall, wouldn’t recommend, I couldn’t take another second of this.

Yeah I can already tell this isn’t for me. The fantasy elements just don’t work for me, and I can’t get into the writing style

This started out really promising, and then it got really really slow. The conflict also became super repetitive too. The hero needed to marry for money, respectability and status, and the heroine didn’t have any that. And he kept telling her he couldn’t marry her, and they kept antagonizing over it, and it just got boring. Which is unfortunate because the first hundred pages were really well done. But by the time we hit the hundred page mark, basically the entire back of the book premise was already over.

I enjoyed the hero, and the heroine on their own and they were sweet as a couple but I just couldn’t look past their endless will-they-won’t-they schemes. I’m interested in the next book in the series however, as it’s a sapphic historical!
