The fact that this was only 80 pages!! How?? ππ
This was such a surprisingly sweet addition to the Risdaverse.
Of course we have the wonderful marriage of convenience trope. But I was so impressed with the hurt/comfort aspects of these characters.
Vordigar is an escaped prisoner of war, making a quick stop on Risda III before meeting up with the va Sithai brothers (my favorite space pirates) for a job. He is not the conventionally attractive male (he's been through it in the war and has the scars to prove it).
Then he finds himself with an offer for marriage from Piper, an enigmatic human, who needs a husband, a baby, and some muscle to keep her farm safe (in that order). She seems tough and unbothered but she is also hiding her hurt and trauma from her past.
The two of them together are the sweetest! Vordigar may look scary but he is the biggest softy and will do everything to prove to Piper she is worth everything to him π

Look, I've said it before and I'll say it again. Katee Robert is a QUEEN and no one does throuples like her.
Helen, Achilles, and Patroclus are messy and imperfect and I love them.
I also am so excited about the background drama unfolding.
And as always, I know I'll have to wait but I will not know peace until I get the Zeus/Callisto book.

I absolutely ADORED this book! I cannot get enough of this world that Danielle Jensen has created and I LOVE the larger story at play with this series.
The political court drama and the scheming is phenomenal. All of the characters in play are so multi-faceted and morally grey. I love biting my nails and wondering whether or not a character is trustworthy and i was second-guessing EVERYONE.
Zarrah and Keris - tragic forbidden romance PERFECTION.
"I do want to remake the world so that I can be with you. So that I can get down on my knees and ask you to be my wife. So that I can put a crown on your head and make you my queen. So I can build a shrine and worship you as my goddess. I want all of these things, yet I face a future with none of them, and I don't know whether I want to fall on my own blade or burn everything to ash because I do not want to let you go."

I was in literal tears by the end of this. Everytthing- the tension, the animosity, the STRESS. All worth it.
I love Lara and Aren but I am so excited to follow Keris and Zarrah in book 3- so much backstory to unpack!!
