It was so compelling to hear Ms McBride narrate her story. A quite from the end of the book, “Vulnerability is often the first step on the path toward justice,” seemed to sum up her story. She shares her personal, private experience of her transgender identity with such honesty, compassion and vulnerability. Woven into this personal narrative is her extraordinary position in the movement for transgender equality. I so appreciate this story and will carry it with me for a very long time.
This book broke me & gave me hope. I felt saddened & encouraged. Sarah is an outstanding author; offering every somber and heart wrenching detail.
If you read any book this year, ready this. It will change your life. It will make you feel more determined to change the injustices you see every single day.
Thank you Sarah for being your authentic self, and giving others that courage you possess.

I am not the target audience for this book lol

This was a memoir focusing on a trans woman's experience coming out, trying to make the US a more trans inclusive space and her experience losing her love to cancer. The first half of the book focuses mostly on her political aspirations and work to change the laws regarding trans rights in Delaware and then in the US Congress. This part of the book was a little dry for me as I'm not that into politics though I did get a much better sense of the lack of rights trans people have and what that means for the ability for them to live, work and love in the US. The second part of the book focuses on her falling in love with a trans man and his subsequent battles with cancer and eventual death. This part of the book was extremely emotional though I did have a bit of disconnect between the two parts of the book and what McBride was attempting to do with her memoir other than just telling her life story from 18-25 years old. I enjoyed this book but I wanted everything to connect with a focused topic for this memoir rather than just telling a story.

Tomorrow Will Be Different was an eye opening and heart wrenching read. Sarah's open, honest and passionate writing gripped me from the first moment I picked up her book. I was hardly able to put the book down until I finished. Even though I've followed Sarah's journey and the fight for trans rights in Delaware and nationwide on social media and in the news, I learned so much from this book, and I hope many others will too.
Continuing with my Pride Month reading journey, this book was so powerful. I learned a lot about LGBTQIA policy advocacy through this deeply personal story. So many hard fought battles for basic human rights. It was inspiring and depressing all at once. Be prepared for a good cry too. Very good…highly recommend.
