Love the concept, but the stories are a little hit and miss.
One was wincingly horrific, but many I wouldn’t even class has “Horror” in any of its forms.

Really interesting, especially as a writer.
I find so many of my ideas and thoughts aligning with his. Some wise words in this book really saved me from a creative crisis.

I found it very slow middle to end. I was holding out for a big, fast paced climax to make it all worth, but for me, it wasn’t.
Partly, I think I just have a problem with books this length. I thought I fancied something longer to finish off the year, but I was wrong.

Excellent! Amazingly realised characters, twists and turns that kept the pace moving, and a great range of art.

Occasionally, you think you know what a twist will be, but then it’s revealed on the next page.
Sometimes you thought you knew what was happening, but they were only playing on a trope and it’s deeper than you realised.

There was an issue towards the end that through ‘show, don’t tell’ out the window so I’m not sure what that was about, but it was only one or two issues out of many.

It would have been a 5/5, but it didn’t entirely feel finished as a story. I’m rushing out to get Volume 2 right now, so the cliffhanger worked, but I personally reserve full marks for things I feel I could go back and read by themselves.

I found it a little unfocused for my liking. I also think that it is harmed by being so outdated. If he wrote the same book now, I think it could be one of his best.

Into the Raging Sea: Thirty-Three Mariners, One Megastorm, and the Sinking of El Faro

Rachel Slade

DID NOT FINISH: 35%

It was pretty slow and not as interesting as I expected.

The Butterfly Effect with Jon Ronson

Jon Ronson

Pretty good, as Ronson always is. I might come back to it.

Pretty solid story for the most part, but a few things come from nowhere at the end and that really lets the whole thing down.

Mindset: The New Psychology of Success

Carol S. Dweck

DID NOT FINISH: 13%

I found it very interesting, but it quickly got repetitive.

Some interesting thoughts on ideas. Everything is put clearly and succinctly, although the page count sometimes feels a little bit padded with extended examples, not all of which felt necessary to me.
