History does repeat when the same political playbook that comes out fifty-years later.

"Playing with Fire" is a book that breaks down the historic 1968 election. It is a political nerd's dream. I enjoyed it.

President Trump is a modern-day President Nixon. The United States has not learned from the past and doomed to repeat, or we are repeating.

Meh. Felt like a Hallmark movie but not in a good way.

I imagine a movie deal from this book because it felt like a movie spec for a Hallmark movie.

Doesn't have the biting wit of Austen, it was using Austen.

Could have been a good book.

Short Stories are always a hit and miss. While I liked Fates and Furies, I found the short stories hard to read. I can't pinpoint if it is the Florida theme, prose or the tendency of the character to meander in their thoughts. I am not sure but bummed I didn't enjoy it.

I received a D/ARC from Edelweiss for an honest review.

Women & Power: A Manifesto is a small tome with big ideas. The two chapters were initially two lectures given for London Review of Books (2014 and early 2017). She packs a lot of history and thought into what she says in a few pages about the history of power and what women can do to inherit/attain/receive the power that has silence them since the beginning of time.

They are not the most groundbreaking lectures and given before the #metoo movement, but they are a reminder that this problem has always been there and only now are we working through the cultural growth spurts of changing the power dynamics and women regaining their voice.

Good overview. Easy Read. Interesting to see the social aspect of history and how it does follow Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs.
