This book was slow for me at first, but about 3/4s of the way through, it really picked up. I've read a ton of dystopian fiction, and while this isn't my favorite, I'm excited to read the sequel. The main characters (Kyla, Ben, Dr. Lysander, and "Mum") are well thought out and very dynamic. Others are flat and their motivations for their actions do not resonate. However, this is the first in a trilogy and we may very well learn more about these secondary characters and how they fit in. If you like anything by Robin Wasserman (Frozen, Shattered, or Torn), you'll love this trilogy.

As much as this textbook attempted to be accessible, it does not fit with a technological world. I appreciate the formulas and can calculate them if needed, but when my entire class (and all of my data as well) runs in Excel, it would be nice to have information on how to calculate within statistical software.

Perhaps this is one of those prequels you read after finishing the series. It ends on a cliffhanger that almost has me wanting to read the next book. I'll look it up and see what it's about, but my to-read list is so long that I'm not sure this series will make it into my hands any time soon.

What a wonderful book! I cannot wait to teach this with my students. Reading Martin's story will change their entire world view.
