Interesting premise with gorgeous illustrations. The dialogue was a bit off to me and I felt like portions of the plot were missing. Like the story hit fast forward about 50% in and then wrapped up abruptly.
Big take away; dont let social media run your life.

Narrated by Natalie Naudus
If you cant tell by the title, this tale is a bit cheeky and puny. The story was fun (with a few more seriously scenes) and flowed easily. Never a dull moment when spells go ary. I had a good time and Naudus is a great narrator. They nailed the humor and tone throughout the story.
Definitely interested in what Stevenson does next.
Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audiobook!

Narrated by Bea Holland who was fantastic!
I'm pretty sure Threadneedle is my favorite witchy, coming of age read.
The cruelties of high school are all too real and relatable. I love how this group of outcast misfits come together to conquer it. The entire ensemble of friends is lovable (particularly Rowan!).
Underground/hidden Magic in a modern, mundane world (sandwiched within Anna's mysterious family history & cuckoo Auntie) is one of my favorite tropes, and Thomas pulls it off flawlessly.

4.5⭐️s rounded up for Goodreads
In true Starling fashion, The Starving Saints is a bit of a slow burn, supernatural, horror-fantasy. And as always with Starling's books, I feel like I need a re-read. Like, this is probably a 5 star read, but my brain didn't fully retain and/or appreciate what I experienced.
I went in fairly blind, as I tend to do, and (SPOILERS) medieval delirium with both accidental and purposeful cannibalism was definitely a fantastically gross surprise.
Starling doesn't write the same book twice (each is wildly different and original).
However, I often ask myself these questions regarding Starling's characters.
"Do I like them?!"
"Should I like them?!"
"What is wrong with me?!"
Because yes, I end up loving them for one reason or another. They're always interesting, intelligent, and often morally grey. Phosyne, Voyne, and Treila are beautifully flawed. Aymar Castle and the Saints are a fever dream.

I've been meaning to report that Chuck Wendig is an auto-buy author for me. The Staircase in the Woods is my 4th Wendig and, like the previous 3, I loved it.
His characters are always so well written. So real and relatable, from their thought processes to their dialogue to their emotions. Staircase is no exception.
Staircase felt like a nod to King's It, minus the clown, and way easier to digest. I inhaled it. We've got a group of childhood friends coming together as adults and reliving a past trauma they experienced together, attempting to right a wrong, and re-forging old bonds all while experiencing some scary shit.
I loved it. I also love the little easter eggs that connect previous books/characters. Read carefully, or you might miss them.

I love a good serial killer story and a Scott Snyder comic. Dungeon was interestingly traumatic and horrifying.
Hayden Sherman's illustrations complemented the story perfectly.
