Thanks to the author, Matthew Mercer, for the free audiobook (I won via the gram) which i listened to in tadem with the ebook I purchased!

Oookay, so I had very different expectations when I saw this cover (5 stars) and read the synopsis. I was thinking this would be an all out bloody, gorey, slasher. However, it's more slasher-lite and teen drama/relationships heavy.
SCFSV feels more like a young adult book, which I often enjoy. So, with some adjustments to my original expectations, I felt this was a solid story. The pacing was a bit slow going, for me, due to so much of the story revolving around getting to know the characters and their trauma versus actively slashing and causing trauma... not to worry, there is some slashing, though I felt it wrapped up much too quickly.
Overall, I think this would be great for YA readers interested in getting into slasher books and movies.
The narration was good, though it sort of sounded similar to myself, or most anyone, reading a story out loud. 😁

(3.25 ⭐️s for the book)
4 ⭐️s for the audiobook and my preferred medium for this book

I read an ebook in tandem with the audiobook.
Narrated by K.J. Aiello

This book wasn't for me. It was, however, written and narrated well.
The Monster in the Mirror is heavier on the memoir portion than I was expecting (=me problem). I think that's why it took me quite a while to get through the book, especially since I didn't know who Aiello was beforehand. Altogether, this was an interesting read and insight into a self-proclaimed mentally ill writer and their inspirations through media and struggles in reality.

Thanks to NetGalley, ECW Press, and ECW Press Audio for the eARC & audiobook.

OMG. LOVED is an inadequate word to describe my feelings about this tale.

Okay. If you're a Supernatural (the show) fan and are still wondering, "Whatever happened to the Niflheim kid?" or kids like him? Then the Wolf Comes Home might shed some light, though it's still originally independent from that story.
If you have no idea what I'm referencing, no worries, just buckle up and enjoy the ride.
I'm not even sure how to describe what I listened to. It was funny, sad, scary, gory, hilarious, relatable, and more. My emotions got whiplash, and I'm saying, "Thank you."

P.S. I'm glad we're not pretending like R. R. and Toon Town wasn't anything but a bat-shit, fevered nightmare for children.
P.P.S. Helen Laser was PERFECTION, no notes.

Narrated by Helen Baxendale; Jamie Glover; Sarah Pinborough

I ate this audiobook up. Baxendale did a fantastic narration. I was easily engaged the entire book.
We Live Here Now is a paranormal thriller. The storyline has some twisty turns that I couldn't have guessed. The characters are semi likeable, sympathetic at least. But the house, Larkin Lodge, is the real star of the show. If I'm being picky, I'd say that I would've liked the book tonbe longer, not that its necessary, I was just enjoying myself.
Now I just need that first/special edition for my trophy shelf... and rereads, but I'd likely pick the audio up again!
