i really liked this book and appreciated the focus being on a 49 year old woman going through pre menopause. the horror aspects were fantastic and you can truly tell that the author was a big fan of Carrie (even though this feels INCREDIBLY removed in a good way), because of how this felt like an homage to the story. though i loved that aspect, i felt like the book could easily have been 50-100 pages shorter and dragged significantly around the 60-75% mark. I also felt that it was way too heavy handed with the reminders about how society doesn’t value older women and aging women are ignored. i wish it had done it a bit more between the lines rather than holding my hand through it.

this book was very good and the plot twists did genuinely shock me, even the ones that i guessed. i feel so sad for vi, eric, and iris.

very good debut from this author! i liked the book a lot more at the start and at the end though im not sure what i think about that yellowjacket comp at the moment. definitely would recommend, and julie was such an easy character tk be captivated by!

I thought the dynamics of the siblings repeating something that happened in the past was interesting, and uncovering the family history they found out shocked me a lot. However, I do feel like the book could have been shorter or could have been restructured a bit because there were so many lulls that made me lose interest in what was happening with both Louise and Mark. If you're a fan of Annabelle, The Conjuring, and other things like that, you'll definitely like this.

i am so amazed at the way this book was written. from the layering, to making me care about every single character, to the ending being so shocking and not what i expected based on the start of this...i am amazed. yep. slay.
