Thank you Catapult and Goodreads for the ARC of Floyd Harbor! Some of the stories stuck with me more than others, but overall I enjoyed this collection of stories.
I love a good twisty psychological thriller. This book had me hooked from the beginning and just when I thought I had the ending figured out, I was hit with another sequence of twists. Would definitely recommend if you’re looking looking for a quick read that sucks you in. Thank you Random House and Goodreads for my copy of The Better Liar!
I went into this book expecting something along the lines of The Glass Castle or Educated, both of which I absolutely loved. This memoir went a little slower for me but I’m still glad I read it. As someone who doesn’t consider themself very religious anymore, I found myself skipping over a lot of the Bible passages and retelling of stories that I remember from Sunday school growing up. Megan does a great job of explaining how her family twisted these same stories I grew up learning to justify their radical views. As someone who is both fascinated and repulsed by the views expressed by the Westboro Baptist Church, I found it interesting to get a peek behind the curtain and understand how the organization became what they are known for today. There is no denying the courage it took for Megan to not only leave the church and her family but to also speak so publicly against the practices she was brought up participating in. Thank you Goodreads and FSG for my copy of Unfollow!
I loved The Dinner and Summer House with a Swimming Pool, so I was very excited to read The Ditch. The story had me hooked at the beginning, but the plot kind of veered off into different directions throughout the book. It was a quick read, but I didn’t enjoy this book as much as I thought I would. Thank you to Crown Publishing and Goodreads for my ARC of The Ditch!
This was the perfect read to end my year on after reading about some heavier topics. The book alternates between the two pain characters’ points of view and takes place over the course of a year. While the cover looks very wintery, this book could easily be read at any time of year. I’m not usually one for romance novels but I really enjoyed this lighthearted read! Thank you Goodreads and William Morrow for my copy of We Met in December!
