This was definitely a refreshing take on the coming-of-age superhero story. While I had a lot of fun with it and the characters were well fleshed out, I think the story itself needed a little more on the past relationship building aspect because there were a few points where 'show, don't tell' would've worked better.

This book made me understand some of the behaviors of loved ones who have experienced divorce, and I feel like some of Maggie's behaviors can also be applied to other types of loss and grief.

I definitely got some elements of the ‘Sailor Moon’ series while reading this and had a lot of fun watching Minako finally become Sailor Venus!

I went into this thinking it was going to be a duology and initially was a bit critical on the pacing, but luckily we will be getting more adventures from our cast of characters. Normally I am a fan of multiple perspective books, but I feel like there was slightly too much of Jesadirany's portions where they could have been consolidated into 1-2 longer segments (especially with the twist that's revealed). Overall, I thought this was very on par with the first book and I enjoyed getting the epic adventure aspect along with learning more about the other characters apart from The Name Bearer.

I absolutely adore letter format style books and it's even more of a treat to have works like this in letter format. This was a balanced blend of history and nerve-wracking plot that is easily digestible while still hitting you in the feels. I was also pleasantly surprised by the ending and urge those who are looking to learn about concentration camp births to give this work a read.

While this is a fictional work, it's clear to anyone who is well-versed in comics (or at least knows how to read Wikipedia) which ladies of the comic book world these characters were based on. Listening in audiobook form, I got a support group type vibe and I feel like it really adds to the importance of understanding the fucked up-ness that is 'being fridged.' I think this should be required reading for not only comic book fanatics, but also literary classes that discuss comic books. 

I'm a hardcore 'Sailor Moon' fan, so getting to read this was super fun! There were definitely a few times when I was feeling my age a bit, but I still enjoyed getting a glimpse of Minako's life before joining the Sailor Senshi and can't wait to read Volume 2!

This is a great collection of essays for not only horror fans but also for those trying to understand their identity (or a loved one’s identity) in horror terms. As an audiobook format, I think their choices of narrators were fantastic and engaging even if I myself was struggling with the topic at hand (which was rare btw). I enjoyed getting to hear not only the authors’ connections with the film(s) that they chose for their essays and how they were able to combine historical and personal experiences. There were a few that I wanted to highlight as my ‘faves’ (mainly ones that opened my opinion on the topic itself) and will list them below with no context (because I want y’all to read this book).

I ADORED THIS! This was equal parts quirky and thought-provoking and now I want to go back and read the original web series!

I think this had a lot of interesting and dark things going for it, but I wish that this was a full-length work because I feel like it took a bit of time for shit to hit the fan but ended abruptly. I think this author is great with atmospheric details and creating unsettling feelings for the reader (in the best way possible). It was super addictive trying to figure out what was going to happen though, so I would absolutely recommend this for people who are looking to spend the day relaxing with an enticing book.
