It's been awhile since I've gotten into a crime drama type book and this was a great choice to get back into the genre. This was fast-paced but with an engaging plot that didn't feel rushed. I actually imagined this as a film, and after a quick Google search I saw that JLo has been trying to get this adapted (which makes me really excited TBH).

This was fantastic, but I wish it was longer because I think there could have been a lot of expanded aspects of the story. Maybe a film adaptation in the future?

I hadn't read this book since I was a child and I absolutely did not remember how sad it was. Reading this through adult eyes, it's a bit disheartening that many aspects regarding immigration, unionizing, and racism still ring true in today's world. I think this is very much on par with 'The Grapes Of Wrath' in a more digestible way (because obviously this was meant for children's eyes). 

This is very much a devour-able read with great social commentary regarding what it means to be a woman in a world where men constantly want to pit us against each other. Liggett does a fantastic job with the atmosphere and making the reader care about even the smallest of characters. However, as a complete and total PERSONAL bias, I could've done away with the romance aspect in order to have more of a female uprising aspect to the story. 

I think this should be required reading for any class that is teaching about other cultures. It is equal parts informative and personal, and I think that the graphic novel format was a beautiful way for Satrapi to let the reader into her world. 

This very much gave me 'The Ugly Truth' meets 'Gossip Girl' vibes with natural discussions regarding the race in an easy to digest YA setting. I very much related to Quinn in regards to her personality quirk of having to make a list for literally everything, as well as her experience struggling with her identity after being the minority/other/exception for so long. 

I thought I had everything figured out and thankfully I didn’t because this book exploded my mind! I’m happy to have lost valuable sleeping time to this book. My only criticism is that I thought the ending felt a bit fast-paced in comparison to the rest of the book, but I obviously still very much enjoyed it.

I think this story had a lot of potential, but I feel like the author's note aspect describing her inspiration for the story kind of took over and the heart of it got a bit lost. However, I definitely want to give Ward's full-length works a try and I think it's amazing that she chose to create this alternate-history type story based off of research that she had already been doing.

I thought this was slightly slow moving at the beginning, but it really picked up and makes the listener/reader think deeply about the conspiracy aspect of the debt collection industry while showing how ruthless and corrupt they are. 

*Disclaimer: My score is a bit biased due to the fact that Covid is being used as a plot point. While I understand that it will forever be a huge part of our history, I personally prefer to stay away from stories that are directly referencing Covid in their plot*

What a wild ride! This reads like a movie and I really hope that it gets adapted one day!
