I wanted to like this book, but truthfully both of the main characters were just incredibly annoying. I didn't feel any real chemistry between them, and both of them treated each other so poorly. There was also a lot of missing backstory re the FMC's late husband, and her relationship with the father of her child (who is neither her dead husband nor the man she ends up with). The kitten, Rhubarb, was the only part of the book that I really liked.

Many thanks to Hannah Lynn, Boldwood Books, & Netgalley for providing me with an ARC.

Unfortunately, I did not enjoy this book.

The premise was interesting, and the cover / title is great, but the writing just didn't hook me; I had to keep pushing myself to finish it.

This is a short, quick read about an indigenous person named Tali Nohkati, that chronicles his life from a child to an elderly man. The story is well written, and I enjoyed all of the characters, especially the spirits and animals. It does end rather abruptly, however I believe there are several more books in the series.

From what I can tell, the author herself is not indigenous (she is french), but it seems as though she did do research into indigenous cultures to aid her writing.

The characters were (mostly) likeable and overall it's a cute sapphic romance, though I felt it was a little rushed in places and could have done with more character building. This book also includes a bit of the miscommunication trope, which I'm not a fan of.

This book was... a lot. The premise was interesting and the writing itself was good, but I really didn't like any of the main characters, especially Emily. I liked her for a split second when she seemed genuine about helping Ally, but then she did the unthinkable and became irredeemable in my eyes. Ally wasn't much better, but at least she didn't go to the lengths that Emily did to get what she wanted. Despite my dislike of the characters, I did enjoy reading the book.
