I really enjoyed this book. I really liked the characters especially Catarina, Morgan, Riley and   Aaltje and the world the characters had built. I did find myself getting a bit lost a few times as it jumps around a bit but this didn't stop me enjoying this book and I would be interested in more books in this world around the lore mentioned and Captain Morgan and Rileys pasts

James introduces this book by saying he's not an author and I would most definitely disagree as he is a brilliant story teller and an even better artist! This book gives you a background to Runes and how to use these as well as giving lots of detail in Norse mythology. He does this in a really friendly and easy to understand  way and would most definitely recommend this to any one with an interest in Runes or Norse mythology. Though the stars of the show are his absolutely beautiful illustrations which are both simple yet detailed and I would happily have these displayed as works of art

So I'll admit I don't normally get on with books that are older or the 'classics' I can struggle to gel  with the writing and normally find it a bit boring but that wasn't the case with this book. 
This book was originally published in 1911 and was aimed at 'young and impressionable women primarily, followed by men and anyone else willing to listen', and to be honest I feel that this could have been written more recently rather than 90 years ago. I found Vivian really likeable and felt her frustration of wanting to do more than just be her womanly duty and marry and have children which I feel is something I still feel is still expected of women now though maybe not conveyed in the same way! Although this was supposed to be a warning to women and ti education them on topics not discussed then, it didn't feel like it and would be interested to learn more about Charlotte and read more of her works

I'll admit I'm a bit of a sucker for anything distopian so when u saw the blurb for this it sounded right up my street and I really enjoyed it! It starts when Nora finds herself pregnant in a place where this is illegal but she decides after losing her family she wants to keep the baby, though her future father in law Paul doesn't want this.
 Nora and Nate are both really likeable and you found yourself really rooting for them and Paul was the brilliant bad guy. There where plenty of twists and turns and kept me hooked in fact I would like to see more of this world, a prequel a what happened next anything more of this world would be fab
 

So I'll be honest I'm not sure how to review this book as although overall I enjoyed the book and found the story interesting and all the characters where really likeable there where a few things that didn't quite sit right. I feel it may have made more sense if Tarja and Braden where maybe cousins or siblings rather than Godsiblings this just seemed bit of a strange connection (that must just be me though!) It also seemed the book was very heavily influenced by another famous series to the extent that the same things happened but the characters and setting had just slightly changed. Despite this I did still enjoy it and will likely read the rest of the series once released

So I will admit it did take me a while to get into this book as there's is lots of world building and characters to get to know (though luckily there was a guide to the characters and kingdom's which I used a few times. Whilst the characters where likeable there where none I feel in love with and due to all the world building I felt that the story didn't really get going till the last 100 pages. There where a good few plot twist I didn't see coming and although I might not read it right away book 2 is definitely being added to my TBR
