challenging dark fast-paced

I agree with the message, but the writing felt disjointed and angry more than a cohesive essay. Also, the art was impactful for the first while, but got to be redundant and unimportant to the text, which is not effective for a comic imo.
emotional reflective

I love Gina Chung's writing and this collection was so beautiful. I will be returning to these stories for their emotional beats and interesting cast of characters. It's often hard for me to finish a short story collection, but this one had strong story after strong story keeping me engaged and wanting to read more.
adventurous

My feelings are mixed - I like our cast of characters, I enjoyed a heist plot, and appreciated a distinct take on vampires. However, the voices did not feel distinct between the multiple POVs, and many of the moments of trust between characters did not feel entirely earned. A lot of "I can't work with you" - "okay, I trust you, let's go" kind of conversations. I also felt like there were way too many lose ends at the end for how much the narrative was set up, like
Jin's parents, how Jin felt about Arthie's secrets and that he was turned to vampire but she died at the end and leaves him behind
