Deborah Ellis' writing is very simple but her words hold so much meaning. I love the way this book was written because flowery language often disrupts the message. I was confused at first but then I realized that this was a series. A really good book.

To be completely honest, I wasn't sure what to get out of this book. Was it well written? Sure. Where the characters relatable/realistic? I guess so. But the plot sort of seemed to be going nowhere. I'm not even sure if this was supposed to be criticism on modern day society. Then again, I'm not really the demographic for it so it might be more engaging to others.

Don't want to give too much away but a really interesting book. Not to mention the illustrations are amazing.

This book does a great job of exploring the idea of statuary rape. Because let's face it, the comments that male victims of rape receive are disgusting. There's a certain sense of "its his fault since he wanted it". Kids are not old enough to make their decisions and this book explores the way we treat male victims.

Is there even a need for a review? An amazing person with an amazing book.

I really wanted to like this book but some characters seemed way too juvenile to be realistic. It does address some key problems in society so this is a great book to introduce middle graders to issues. Overall could've been better.

A very well written novel that (for like the first time) shows a strong side of survivors and good support systems. Surprisingly, the pace was good and the plot interesting enough to keep me engaged.

I love the fact that this book is both heartwarming but also a mystery. Keeps you on your toes but also gives you a big hug. Great characters, great plot, I love.

It's a really compelling novel about language considering the audience it was written for. I do wish they delved a little more into the idea of language instead of focusing mainly on the plot but also it's written for elementary school kids.

A really interesting and though provoking series of essay. I don't think there was a single one that I found boring.
