I really struggled through most of this book and almost wanted to DNF it. For me this story just developed too slow and I didn't really felt any connection to the characters. Especially the detective point of view was just not really interesting to me. However, I found the ending to be actually quite interesting. But about 80% of this book I didn't really care too much, hence I will only give it 2.5 stars.

Overall, this was a quite weird short story. Still, I did enjoy listening to this audiobook and was actually a little surprised by the ending. The ending felt a little too quick for me though. I would have liked a little more explanation.

I was very excited to read this book because I really loved ‘my lovely wife’ by Samantha Downing. While I did like the way it was written (having two timelines etc) and was curious to find out what happened on the first road trip, I got a little bored with the story about the present. I still enjoyed the ending and definitely didn’t expect what happened but overall the book what ‘just’ okay for me.

But if you like stories about road trips, I would definitely still recommend it! :)

In the end, I did enjoy the story overall, however, I found it to be just a little too long for me. I struggled through the beginning/middle of the book because it didn't feel like we were moving forward for quite some time. That's also the reason it took me so long to finish the book.

Also, I do have to say that I did not really care for Harriet too much until we discovered a little more about her mother's past towards the end. How the story wrapped up was quite interesting but I still wished that I would have cared more about the characters. That is why I was torn between two and three stars for this rating and ended up giving it 2,5 stars (but rounded up for the purpose of this goodreads rating).

I already tried listening to the audiobook once before but didn't finish it before I had to return it. The first half or even a little more of this book is really slow and not exactly what you expect from this type of the book. However, it does give you a very good feel for the house Noemi is staying in and the people she is staying with. Because of all the good reviews and goodreads and youtube I gave it another chance and got the audiobook again for a rather long car ride and I was surprised that as soon as the story finally picked up some speed and a few (very creepy) things were revealed, I did really enjoy the rest of the book.

Because of these thoughts I was unsure if I should give the book three or four stars and decided on 3,5 because the first part did bore me quite a bit but the second part really made up for it.

Wow, I really didn't think I would enjoy this book as much as I did. At first I thought the twist was quite obvious but I was so wrong!

When reading this story you really start to doubt everyone!

Another surprise for me was that the narrator of the audiobook Kirsten Potter made the story come to life in a way that made me enjoy this book even more! I am usually very picky with audiobooks but with this one I couldn't wait to get back to my car to listen some more! Gladly, I had a few longer trips this week :D
