I did really enjoy the first book in this series when I read it a few years ago. I do have to say however, I did struggle a little bit at the start of the second book because it was quite a few years back that I read 'One of Us is Lying'.

Generally, I think this was a nice sequel but I do have to admit that I did not really connect to the characters as much as I would have wanted to. Either it is because I listened to the audiobook and usually get distracted way easier than I do with physical books or it is because this is a young adult thriller. Lately, I have been noticing that I don't enjoy young adult as much as I used to.

Hence, I do think that if you like young adult thrillers/mysterys I would still recommend this to you :).

This is a story about Nora who gets invited to a hen weekend by one of her childhood friends. I think it goes without saying that there is a lot of history between the characters since they haven't really been keeping in touch for the last 10 years. The hen weekend takes place in a house almost hidden in a forest.

The premise sounded really intriguing to me and overall I think the story did not disappoint. I liked the main characters (at least Nora and Nina :D) and I did like trying to figure out what actually happened in their past to make them lose touch. I also appreciate that there were no loose ends after the whole story was explained. I find that in some books there are questions raised by the characters which then are not answered in the course of the story. I thought for a second that one important matter would not be explained but it was in the end.

Overall, I do have to say however that the story was just an okay thriller since at some point in the book it was rather obvious what had happened and it was rather easy to narrow the suspects down. So, since I did expect a little more from the story but did really enjoy the time I had with the story it's a three-star book for me.

In this book, we get to know Jane who is a dog walker in a rich neighbourhood. When she meets Eddie on one of her walks, she sees the opportunity to get out of her previous life. Eddie's wife and her best friend died the summer before but have not yet been found and Jane tried to find out more about what actually happened. But Eddie is not the only one keeping secrets.

It took me quite some time to get through the book, however, this was definitely not because of the writing but rather just a time issue. I did really enjoy reading this book. I did like how the story was split between Jane and Bea which allowed you to follow along both of them. And let me just say, the twist there is towards the end was quite thrilling!

However, after that twist, I did expect a little more from the story. I thought it was wrapped up a little too fast and easy. The event in Jane's past that she is running was made to be that really scary and dark thing but actually was not as bad as I expected. Also, the ending to me just feels like the story was cut short and not properly finished.

Nonetheless, I'm really curious about the actual Jane Eyre story now though since this one is supposed to be a retelling about it!

I was pleasantly surprised that I didn't mind the many POVs in the book. Usually, I don't like books with more than two POVs. I feel like first the books felt more like a light mystery to me and I would have preferred it to stay that way. The sudden change in pace of the story was a little weird to me and didn't feel completely right. Also, I do think some things were quite predictable. However, I wasn't sure who actually did it until the end (maybe also because I was still hoping for a different outcome). But overall, I did enjoy the time I had with the book and would recommend it especially for people who are only just getting into reading thrillers.

I did not have many expectations going into the Outsider since I haven't like the other books I read by Stephen King so far. But I figured I would try the audiobook this time since I did hear that Will Patton does a good job bringing the characters to life. And I do actually think that Will Patton’s reading contributed a lot to the fact that I enjoyed The Outsider as much as I did. I did still have a little trouble remembering who was who in the book, especially towards the end when more people get introduced but this is generally a problem I have when choosing the audiobook instead of the physical book.

Also, overall I think the story progressed quite slowly compared to the typical thriller but it was still quite interesting to try and figure out if it was actually Terry who killed the boy or if something else is going on. At some point, you do start questioning if there even is a human-explanation for the murder which is cleared up in the last few chapters. To be honest, though, I think I would have enjoyed it more if the story played out a little differently at the end.

So, in summary, I did think the story to be a little bit slow and I do think that it probably would have taken me way longer to actually get through the book if I would have chosen the physical version of it and I did have some issues with the ending. However, I really enjoyed most of the story and the audiobook kept me way more engaged than audiobooks usually do. That is why I feel comfortable giving the book four stars. I am now hoping to find the series on Netflix so I can compare the two!

I have mixed feelings about this book. At first, I did enjoy Amber's part quite a bit and was really interested in what's going to happen. At some point though, I got a little bored with her story (which could have been due to the fact that I listened to the audiobook though).

So, it was a nice change when the second part started. Even though I probably enjoyed the second part more than the first, it felt like what we found out then came out of nowhere and I wasn't expecting this kind of change. Also, some things that happened towards the end also were a little too obvious for me.

Nonetheless, I did enjoy most of the book and hence rate it as a 3 star (maybe even a 3,5)!

Overall, I did quite enjoy this book even though I don't think I am the target group for this type of novel anymore :D

It reminded be a lot of twilight with some quite interesting differences and since I was a rather big fan of the series it was actually really fun to go back to a similar story after so many years! I am even tempted to pick up the sequels.
