While I did enjoy the story overall, I did think the characters to be rather weird and I didn’t particularly like the ending. I know that Amelia and James are only seventeen but the way they were talking with each other just seemed a bit off. They didn’t show any emotions at all which made it hard for me to relate to them.

However, the story itself was still very interesting to read and I was curious about what would happen in the house. Some parts of the story creeped me out a little and enhanced my fear of deep waters. I feel like the fact that I was reading the book in the dark helped the horror vibe a little bit though.

When I arrived at the end of the book, after complaining a little more about the weird way the teenagers were communicating with each other, I was not surprised that the ending was not conclusive. Nonetheless, I still was unsettled by how much we were left hanging and how many questions remained unanswered. I am generally a person who does not like open endings but usually, I can deal with a few remaining unanswered questions. In this book, however, I just felt like the author should have given us at least a few more pages or explanations.

Even though I did not like everything about this book there were some parts that I really enjoyed. I did like the writing overall but found that most of the conversation between the two was rather weird and not like I imagine seventeen-year-olds to talk to each other, even when they are nervous about their first date together. Additionally, the ending just left me hanging a little too much in my opinion. I am giving the book three stars since I still think it is a book others will definitely enjoy if they don’t mind in-conclusive endings that much.

Okay, so overall I did enjoy the book up until the ending. I liked the writing - especially the talk about grief about close family members dying and I loved how all characters were so welcoming and nice! But I was waiting for the horror to actually start, to me it just felt like a soft mystery to me very romance focussed which was hinting at some paranormal stuff.

When I finished this book I was not sure how to rate it, because I did really enjoy reading it - but I just was not was the marketing made it sound. But even if I look past the wrong marketing, I do have to admit that the ending and even some scenes in the book did not make too much sense. There where plotholes throughout the book where something is picked up but then just never brought up again, and the ending just messed up the timeline completely. I cannot think of an explanation where the ending makes sense.

Still I did enjoy the time I had with this book, so for me it deserves three stars even if I would put it in a paranormal romance genre rather that horror, gothic or even thrillers.

I wanted to read this book for a really long time and I'm happy I did now. However, I didn't really connect to the story and the characters until the end.
