Book: The Adoration of Jenna Fox

Genre: YA

Type: Audiobook.

Book rating: ☆☆☆1/2

Review

So I really enjoyed this book, it is one that you can not say a lot about as it will spoil it for you, but while reading it I worked out the twist quite quickly.

Jenna has been in a coma for over a year after a very bad accident, and wakes up to find herself in a new home.
She has lost all of her memory and is basically starting from scratch again, and is using old videos of herself to do this.

Her parents are very protective of her and she is not allowed to do almost anything without having a lecture from them.
She is stuck in the house for weeks at a time without speaking to anyone apart from her parent and her nana who she thinks hates her.

This is one of those books that make you think "What would I do in that situation" would I do the same?

This is a book about how far a parent will go for someone that they love.

I don't have the answer to that question !!!!!!

I’m not really sure how to review this book, I mean, I liked it, but I sort of didn’t.

It is basically a boy (Charlie) writing to someone and explaining how his days are going.

The book is long veerryy long!  I’m not sure whether it was because I was listening to it but it took ages.

I started to get a bit bored by the end but I have to admit when Sam was telling him that his 1st kiss should be with someone he loved I welled up a bit as that was really sweet.

This is a book about growing up, love, loss and above all else friendship.

It explains that it’s actually ok to be a little bit weird and you can make great friends even if you don’t conform to the typical stereotype.

Hmm ......

I thought after reading TFIOS and then Looking for Alaska that I had quite possibly found another favourite author, however it was not to be.......sob!!

This book should just be called Looking For Margo, or Paper Alaska as it was pretty much the same story.

Quirky girl is friends with boy, boy falls secretly in love with the girl, girl goes missing and boy and his friends try to find her.......... sound familiar? ?

A couple of lol moments (drunk Ben) but all in all I was a little disappointed, I was expecting so much more from Mr Green.

WOAH! !!!

Stand back everyone this is a cracker of a book.

Sally, Sal for short is finding it hard to find the right words to say. .....a lot!
The reason for this is because she had a really bad car accident and was in a coma, she was pronounced brain dead and her parents were asked to turn her machine off.

Then all of a sudden just before they pull the plug Sally wakes up!
How you say?

Well ......
This is all down to a tapeworm!!
Now I heard you say EWWWWW! I did,
BUT
wait a minute,
did you know ......?

1. All that you need to do is take 1 little tablet brought to you by SymboGen and the Intestinal Bodyguard will do all of the work for you.
This means, no illnesses ie. Viruses, cancers, it even controls your contraception for you!

2. The Intestinal Bodyguard sits in your stomach and just gets on with it, you don't even know it's there.

3. Million and millions of people use The Intestinal Bodyguard by SymboGen with no side effects what so ever!

And so Sally wakes up after being implanted with a little bodyguard and has to start again literally, she is officially only 6 years old.

She has had to learn to walk, talk etc. But she has a completely different personality to Sally who she was before.

Everything is peachy and she is getting along lovely thank you very much until these darn sleep walkers start turning up, banging on her doors and windows.

She gets a secret message that ties to a childrens poem and the ride starts from there.

I could put in loads of spoilers but I won't, read it and take the journey by yourself.

BTW, Tansy ...... Loved her.!

ZZzzzzzz *poke*
** snore , cough , splutter drool**.....Wipes chin on sleeve .......I'm sorry I must have dropped off ..........

And there ladies and gentlemen you have it!

Do NOT judge a book by it's rating !

I am stupid enough to raise my hand and admit (more than once) that I am a 4☆ whore.....If it has good reviews then I will read it...... Unfortunately in this case as well!!!!

So the stuff that you need to know (if you're bothered) Lucy is a fan of Graffiti art and her favourite artist is Shadow, he is a little bit like Banksy in the UK as that nobody has ever seen him or knows who he is.

Lucy is in love/lust with Shadow and goes out "Shadow hunting" one evening with her friends, one of them being Ed.

Unbeknown to Lucy, Ed actually is shadow and so begins the following of Lucy and her ever so funky friends for 1 night.

I admit as other have said some of the writing is beautifully written and explained so well, but the story is sooooo god damn boring I was checking to see how far I had left.

The narration was just as boring, really quite flat and mehh.

Hey I maybe and probably am wrong, and this book is the mutts nuts, but unfortunately for me it failed miserably !

Ok so after some careful consideration with myself I have decided to only remove half a star (due to the lopsided smile thing) instead of a full one.......oh ok then I'll make an exception just this ONCE!

The reason being is because I pretty much fell in love with this book, even Daemon.

Narration was perfect and made me laugh out loud a few times, the people on the bus thought I was a bit of a weirdo, sitting there with a big goofy smile on my face chuckling to myself!

Anyway I'm sure everyone already knows the blurb by now so I'll give it to you in a few quick notes.

Katie moves to a small town
Goes next door to get directions to FOO LAND (Brought to you by the capital D)
Meets Daemon who is a bit of a douchebag but oh so swoonsome with a grrr dare I say it....Lopsided smile !!!!

Oh yeah. ...........and he's an alien !!!!

Now that's not a spoiler by the way as it is on the book blurb so hold your horses!!!!!

Loved all of the characters and it wasn't a Twilight rip off, I also loved the fact that Katie was a book nerd that did reviews and blogs and got excited about new releases, made me feel better about myself haha.

This is the 2nd book I have read by Jennifer Armentrout and I don't think it will be the last, I really like her writing.

Am currently adding the rest of the series to my TBR pile ..... oh dear more books to read ...Yay! !

Ok so let's get it out of the way 1st THIS IS NOT HUNGER GAMES

Yes it is about kids fighting against each other.

Yes it's probably going to result in their death.......but that is it, nothing else is similar.
It is not a dystopia novel.

Heather is a young girl who lives in a dead end town called Carp, everyone wants to get out, there is nothing there for anyone and if you stay you will end up in a dead end town with a dead end job .......

The only way to get out of the town? MONEY which no one has, and the only way to get a decent amount of money is to play PANIC

The winner gets 67 grand, enough to get out.

WHAT WOULD YOU DO TO HAVE 67 GRAND IN YOUR POCKET??

But Dodge doesn't want the money.........He is playing for revenge !!!

The game happens every year, if you even mention you are in......then you are in.

There are rules though, throughout the year every student has to pay $1 even if they don't want to,(a beating will change your mind) and then in the summer it is pooled together for the winner.

There are judges that no one knows who email, text or post the games, that consist of more and more dangerous things for them to do, then you are on your own.......

How far will Heather and Dodge go to win?

This is a very good book, I liked the way it moved into the games and explained how/why it is played.

A good read.

Knox is a rich boy, he's never had to work for anything in his life and has the life of Riley.

His father is a bigwig in this dystopian world and Knox doesn't feel that he gets enough attention from him since his mother died, he subsequently does anything he can just to piss him off.

Sid is a proxy, Knox's proxy.

He is a poor sewer rat living in poverty, he has so much debt that he can never pay off so becoming a proxy is a norm around his parts.

This is how it works.

The person in debt (Sid) sells his debt to whoever, in this case Knox's father, therefore making Sid a proxy for Knox!

Keeping up ???
It gets easier honest.

So a proxy's role is to take punishment for his owner. So if Knox breaks his grandma's vase then Sid will get dragged out of bed, tied up and given a certain amount of electric shocks dependant on the crime.

Knox's role is to sit and watch the punishment and feel bad about it!

What would happen to Sid for example if Knox stole his father's car?
What would happen to Sid if he had a girl in the car with him and they crashed?
What would happen if she died?

All this and more dear readers is in this cool little book. Give it a go..........For Sids sake !!!

Actual rating 4 and a half stars.

Ahh I loved this book, I picked it up about a year ago and DNF it, I didn't like it and got bored, but I tried again with a buddy read and loved it.
(Thanks Ezi :•D )

Emma is living with her aunt (Carol) and uncle (George) as her father died and her mother turned to alcohol and couldn't look after her.

She is an above average student with excellent results, and a brilliant sports person, so much so that she has coaches coming to watch her from other universities to snap her up.

Her best friend Sara is the most popular girl in the school, and she is also being crushed on by a gorgeous new guy in her classes that all the girls are swooning over.

So why is she not happy?
Why does she not want to be noticed by anyone?
Why does she not have any other friends.
Why does she wear long sleeved baggy clothes all year round?

CAROL

Emma can do no right by Carol, whether that is not doing her chores properly or just breathing.

She calls her "a worthless piece of shit" and will hit her with anything she has to hand....laundry detergent.....hands. ...leather belt......BASEBALL BAT.......KNIFE...!!

The list is endless, poor Emma has to endure this from her bitch of an aunt on a daily basis until she can get out of the house and go to Uni.

I genuinely have never loathed a character more!

Now I'm sure you are wondering as i was, Why doesn't Emma just say something??

Well, not only does Emma live in the house but her 2 little cousins do too, they are still so young and Emma doesn't want them to be taken into care and away from their parents, so she just puts up with it and counts down the days till she can leave.

Now, just as Emma is plodding along with her life quite happily thank you very much, Evan Matthews sneaks in, he slowly gets to know her and gains her trust (although not all of it)

Although she really likes him she will only let them be friends as she doesn't want him to find out about her home life, no one knows about her home life. ....only Sarah.

Sara is a lovely character, I was angry with her at first for not saying anything to anyone, but then realised that she was doing this for Emmas sake.

She looks after her, pampers her and genuinely loves Emma, she is a great best friend.

This book had lots of emotions for me, genuine gushiness, swooning, and gasps of horror!

And ending ...THE ENDING !!!!

Let's just say that my Audible credit is one less this month!!

This book was ok, however it was reeaallyy long, 23hrs in fact !!

In that 23 hrs. we find out a few things, but nothing that couldn’t have been condensed into 12.

 Basically the premise is this:

At school one day in his class Sam notices that his teacher just disappeared, also so did some of his friends in his class, all of the kids over 15!

Other people start to notice and then it becomes clear that it is not just in his class that this had happened but all over the town, there are no adults and nobody over the age of 15.

At first it is brilliant for them, no adults they can do what they like, eat what they want etc., however it then slowly dawns on them that this will also include their parents, and who will cook, clean etc. for them.

Then after all of that they start to turn on each other, I mean someone has got to be in charge right?

A lot of kids turn to Sam as he rescued the driver of a school bus one summer after he had a heart attack while driving.

Other kids don’t want Sam to be in charge and use their powers to get what they want…………….

What’s that ???

Oh yeah didn’t I mention that some of the kids after the ‘Phase’ developed super powers? Sorry about that !

So there you have it, kids alone, no adults, super powers, oh and talking animals!!

What could possibly go wrong?
