What an incredibly moving, vulnerable book! Zauner gives us a detailed look at her journey through grief and self discovery, and deftly weaves in her quest for her identity and sense of belonging.

Zauner’s exploration of her relationship with her mother is deep and thoughtful, and I found myself wondering how my mother and my own children will reconcile our relationships with each other and the world as time goes by.

The writing is really strong and this little book packs a ton of HEAT. I’d describe it as Addie LaRue meets a Little Red Riding Hood retelling for adults. Those big bad wolves are actually cinnamon rolls!
