Honestly, even better than Tommy Cabot Was Here. Funnier, more romantic, and hot damn, I have this weird craving to go on a cross country road trip now.

This was … disappointing. This book wants to be this big, meaningful drama but it falls really flat in a lot of places, and as such, I didn’t care. Way too much of this book is any given MC internally monologuing. Several characters make some very bizarre decisions at the end. There’s an entire chapter that isn’t just unnecessary, it actively makes the book worse. All in all, like I said, this was disappointing.

CWs/TWs (which I’m spoilering because there is plot-related, spoiler stuff here):
Spoiler sexual abuse of a child, physical abuse of an adult, murder of a relative, probably other stuff, idk

Thanks GayRomanceReviews for this ARC.

3.5 stars.

I do like the author’s writing style and that carries a lot of weight for me here. But ultimately, everything else about this book is just sort of … fine. There’s a number of angsty points I don’t exactly understand the reasoning behind, and a few things that were brought up that ended up going nowhere. I do like the setting and the characters enough to be looking forward to the next book, though, so make of that what you will.

a funny, irreverent, wonderful story

Greatly enjoyed this. The writing style is fantastic. The characters are great. I love Mildred and Fitz and Mr Wiggan. I read this while sick and it was the perfect quiet adventure to read in between naps.
