This one was a little slow moving at first but I feel like the end made up for it. There were a few surprises that I really didn't see coming. I just hope that the next book doesn't fall back in the same will she or won't she groove. Make a damn decision Merit and stick with it!

I don't think this was a bad book. It really was exactly what it claimed to be "An Oral History of the Zombie War". So really it's kind of my fault for not taking that literally. It truly did read like a History book. I know that a lot of people really liked this book but it just wasn't for me.
This book is told from multiple character's point's of view from all over the world. Each person's story was about 6-12 pages long (on my nook) and the first 3-6 pages typically was them explaining the way their country was originally(before the zombie war). There was lots of political talk so there were times when I was kind of lost. Maybe that's my fault because I'm not really that knowledgable about how politics and religion work in every country, but I have a hard time believing most people do. Anyways, when you are done hearing about that then you get to the zombie action, which is the good stuff in my opinion. It was all very matter of fact though. Don't get me wrong, there were definitely some interesting stories, but just as I was getting into the story and getting a feel for the voice telling the story, it's over and you are on to the next person's account. It just all felt very detached to me, and that made it hard for me to really get into this book.
Honestly there were a few times when I almost called it quits because I have 2 AMAZING books that came out sitting on my home screen teasing me, and I was basically just dragging my feet trying to "get through" this book. So basically if you are into reading a fictional history book with some zombies thrown in the mix, then this is the book for you! Unfortunately I am not one of those people. Oh well, on to bigger and better things!

Short and sweet! Percy and his friends are always a good fun read!
This might just be my favorite book in the series so far!! Can't wait for the next one!!!
Ahhhhhhh!!!! This book was insanity! Seriously I was reading it in a frenzy just to figure out what the hell was going on! I've had this on my to-read list for quite some time. It always seemed to get pushed aside for other books that I was excited to start. I' wish I would have known what I was missing. The only complaint I can think of was that it was too short! But then my wish was fulfilled when I realized there was a second book ready for my to download. I will be starting that IMMEDIATELY!
White Walls was great! I loved going back and hearing Elijah and Adelaide's story. The only disappointing thing I can say is that the digital copy of book 3 is not available at the B&N store! Why Nook, why?!?! I need to know the rest of the story damn you!
When I first started reading dust I really wasn't sure if it was going to be something I enjoyed. It was definitely different from a lot of books i have been reading lately. Pixies are not creatures i have read a lot of books about, which was a refreshing change of pace! The first 50 pages, nothing was really peeking my interest. Then as I continued things really got going. After awhile you couldn't do anything but feel sorry for poor Rosalie. She continued to wedge her way into my heart the more I read on.
I really liked how realistic the whole imprisonment was. I have read plenty of damsel in distress books in the past where these women are being held captive and have been mistreated but they have rarely come across as real dire situations. There was no doubt in Dust how dire Rosalie's situation was. Devon Ashley really left nothing for you to assume was going on. She painted a very hopeless picture for these pixies and left no little detail out. I really enjoyed that. It wasn't your typical paranormal romance where the prince comes storming in to save a beautiful women who looked no worse for wear after extreme torture. Rosalie was truly what you would expect to see after all the brutalizing she endured.
I also liked the dynamic between Rosalie and Jack. There was no insta love between them, their relationship slowly progressed with the book. Their love was not the main focus of everything, which was nice too. It left me wanting more which is what a good first book in a series does! I look forward to book 2 coming out so I can see where Rosalie's journey takes her next.

I guess I should start by saying I have a sick fascination with pretty much all things zombie. I have had numerous conversations with friends about what we would do should a zombie outbreak ever arise. So naturally this being a book with zombies, I was excited to start it. Unfortunately with it being the week of Christmas, and me getting the flu immediately after Christmas, it took me awhile to get into this book. It was a week of me reading about 5 pages a night. Then today I sat down and really got into it.
I love the zombies in this book. I liked how you are thrown into this place where these people are accustomed to going about their lives surrounded by all the undead with only a fence between them. It's so crazy to imagine a place where skyscrapers and the ocean are nothing more than stories, things that could or could not have been. The whole world that these characters lived in seemed so bleak. Not only with the zombies lurking about but also with the sisterhood dictating every aspect of their lives. I liked all of these things within the story. I just couldn't get on board with Mary. She was just not a like able character to me. She never once seemed content with anything she had! The first half of the book was her pining for Travis, and then she gets the thing she wants and never once appreciated it until maybe briefly when it was once gone again. I get that the whole ocean thing was supposed to represent hope for a better future and all that jazz, but at what expense? It was just hard to relate to someone as selfish as her.
I would definitely be interested in reading the next book in this series, especially knowing its not told by Mary any longer. I just hope I can find a little more enjoyment in the next persons head.

I absolutely loved this book! Fire was a fantastic character, I was completely in love with her from beginning to end. My heart broke for her time and time again. She had so many hardships in her life, but she persevered through it all with such grace. She continuously made painfully hard decisions, all for the good of other people. It's so ironic that she was called the "monster" throughout the book, when it was others actions that seemed so monstrous.
Each person in this book brought something powerful to the story. Archer was another of my favorites, he was someone I couldn't help but care for. Even at his worst moments you knew that it mostly came from a good place. There was a time when I was rooting for him and Fire...I guess really until Brigan came to take Fire to the King's city. The more I got know Brigan the more I fell in love with him too! Him and his whole family!

It was interesting how the author tied this book and the first book together. The other twists and turns really had me reeling as well! It definitely brought the feeling that no one was prefect, there were evil people capable of kindnesses, and also great people capable of great fallacies. It really spoke true, because really that is the nature of all people. No one is ever 100% evil, nor good. I love that this book conveys that message. Honestly, I could go on all day about this book, it quickly became one of my favorites. My only, half hearted complaint would be that Kristin Cashore definitely likes to take something that most of society thinks makes a women a women away from her characters. In the first book it was Katsa's femininity, and in this book it was Fire's ability to have children. Regardless of that, these characters still remain to shine, maybe that's the point! I'm really looking forward to reading Bitterblue next :)
