Writing this review on the reread of the book.
Gorgeous art and really cool world building. You are drawn into Maika's world and story really quickly. Very good introduction that leaves you with questions to pull you into the next volume. 

Very dark and violent world.

Great art and interesting idea, but overall the story was too short. I didn't feel like there was enough time exploring the grief of all the parents dying and how the AI would handle that. I also don't feel like I got to know any of the children well enough, besides "this kid's mom

killed everyone else and this other kid is mad at him for that."

The actually tension of the

ship being attacked

came and went so suddenly as well.

The world built is pretty interesting, but not enough time was spent really developing it. If that had been spent more on developing the main romance, I would have been okay with that but that also felt rushed and not well done. 

The cover and description of this book did not prepare me well for what the actual story would be like. The secrets that the ship was hiding and that the Ambrose and Kodiak slowly work out made it hard to put the book down.  The love between the two was desperate and tender in such a sweet way. This book was a lot darker and more existential than expected and that was a really pleasant surprise. 

also the author's use of time and how he calculated it out was very clever.

I loved this magical retelling of the Great Gatsby! It was really interesting how Vo referenced and morphed the story. 

This book was so fun and emotional! I cried a lot as Maggie was growing and dealing with all the good and bad of that. I connected a lot with her anxieties and worries of how to do things "right". Really wonderful novel. 

I enjoyed the vignettes that were deeply inspired from the authors own childhood. However, the ending felt abrupt and left me feeling like there were pages missing from my book. 

I don't give star ratings to essay collections or short story collections. 

I loved this collection! It covered a wide array of movies and experiences with queerness. Some essays made me cry and others made me laugh, all made me think. I don't watch horror movies, and still found this worth the read!

Entertaining, however I felt like it was not connected enough.

I stopped listening to the audiobook and it just felt weird getting back in. I’ll try again later.
