After a long period of time, we often return to a book we loved deeply in our youths. I returned to Akuma na Eros which I had read as a teenager in High School. This manga was a big help in distracting me from things I had a hard time facing. Now I am an adult, and I can confidently say that this series is still dear to me but I wouldn't recommend it to everyone anymore. And we'll get to why in a bit.

I still love this series a lot. I'm a sucker for a demon type romance; beauty meets a beast so to speak. The aspects that I really liked was that it was at its core about a young girl who was struggling with becoming an adult. It is something that we can all relate to and I appreciate that. The ideas were really good and it executed them in a way that is fitting a short series. My problem with some short series is that everything goes by too quickly, with Akuma na Eros (even though I would've loved it to have been longer) I thought that the pacing was actually not as bad as it could've been. And it does have a fast plot, but the writing was very clever in making the pacing feel like it was a perfect fit. Speaking of, the dialogues were also very good. I loved all the interactions and characters; I didn't have one I disliked.

Now, why is it not for everyone? Akuma na Eros deals with a lot of adult themes involving a 15 year old heroine. So like I have said about Fushigi Yugi, if you do not like the idea of adult themes happening with underage girls then this is not for you. However, if you do delve into Akuma na Eros I really hope you will enjoy it. I fondly remember it for the great characters and the story that I grew to love. Plus the artwork is very good, check it out if you want to give it a shot.

______________
We have a classic that was the February pick for #howlsmovingclassics2020 readalong. Little Women, probably one of the most recommended classics for those who identify as women along with Anne of Green Gables. It's a book I have always wanted to try reading, and I'm happy it's off my TBR list forever. But did I like it?

For the most part, yes I did. The writing is charming in its own way that is really good. The characters of the four sisters (Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy) are incredible and the amount of development they go through from beginning to end made me very happy; it was very cute and it entertained me. The side characters were also well done, I particularly loved Mrs March and Laurie the most. The characters made this book heartwarming and to me are the best quality of the book as it was meant to.

So my small nitpick is that this book doesn't have a plot. I've read a lot of character driven stories before and I love it when it's done right, but not with this one. There were some situations that I think the book could've done without and I think it should've had a little bit of a plot to help its pace. I don't mind that it is a slow burn, but even a little plot would've given the book some grounding and stability. I was a huge fan of the beginning and middle of the book but it kinda fell a little flat close to the end. Only a little.

Like I said before, I am happy I read Little Women. It was cute and I did enjoy it. I do wish that it was a bit better but for what it's worth, I still say give Little Women a read to get your own opinions on it if you haven't. Liked Little Women, but not going to read the sequel.
