Sometimes there are books that are meant to be books, and other times there are some that fit a movie/show platform more than being a novel. We're going to walk through my journey into the foggy, Victorian London streets of Stalking Jack the Ripper.
.
.
Normally I start with what I love in a book before getting into what I wasn't a fan of, but I'm going to save the good stuff to the end. Now, what did I not like about this book? It was predictable, particularly with the identity of Jack the Ripper. I was disappointed that I figured it out so easily; the real identity of such an infamous murderer has still not been discovered in reality so I would've appreciated it if I was taken through more twists and turns to uncover his identity in the novel. Some moments felt forced by the pacing, I think that the book should've been a little longer to incorporate other points in the Ripper case that would've made the pacing and plot even more interesting.
.
.
What did I love? The characters were all written very well. Even though I didn't like the pacing, I also enjoyed it a little bit due to the interactions of the characters. The villain was easy to guess but the person was written so well that I forgave it. The plot itself is very good and the writing is exceptional. Another great thing is that even though I wish more of the Ripper case was addressed, it was done in such a respectful way that I greatly appreciate.

Stalking Jack the Ripper is very good but I think it would've been better as a show on tv like if Ripper Street had a baby with the Alienist. The narrative felt like I was reading a tv show that wasn't finished yet; it's pacing and plot fits more with the way shows are shot and I think if it were on tv it would be one of the greatest crime mystery shows on air. But despite all my rambling, I did enjoy Stalking Jack the Ripper. I think it's a good book that everyone should give a chance to read. I will definitely be reading the sequel, can't wait to see what happens more with the characters!

Some readers remain faithful to every creation their favourite author makes even when some works aren't as great as others. I'm here to say: it's perfectly okay if you don't like a book but love a different one by the same author. It doesn't hurt them and the fact that you are giving time out of your schedule to read their hard work (like it or not) is still a wonderful way to show support. I love Katherine Arden's Winternight trilogy, but Small Spaces was not for me at all. Let's jump into it:
.
.
The pacing is my biggest issue. It changes from very fast to extremely slow; it interferes with flow of the writing and the plot. It felt like the pacing didn't know what it wanted to be and was too scattered for me to breathe in exposition points or feel thrilled by the action. I felt very underwhelmed the entire time I listened to the audiobook.
.
.
I did love the characters, I think they are very well done. I also love the ideas/elements that were played with in the story. Small Spaces is for kids and also adults with a huge passion for middle grade reads. I like middle grades myself but this one just wasn't for me. It is perfect for autumn reading and I will say you will like Small Spaces if you love Goosebumps.

Because this is a sequel review it is going to be a short and sweet. I pride myself on spoiler free reviews so I refuse to talk about sequels in more detail. With that out of the way, let's fly right into Hunting Prince Dracula.
.
.
I loved it! It took everything I liked about the first book and added a few more tidbits to make it one of my favourite continuations of a series. None of the minor problems from book one travelled into book two. The writing is just as great if not more, the character development and growth was phenomenal and the story itself was fantastic. I have nothing bad to say about this book, I enjoyed it thoroughly!
.
.
If you are in the mood for a thrilling, mystery Winter read, Hunting Prince Dracula is the perfect sequel to read this time of year. I highly recommend reading Stalking Jack the Ripper at the tail end of November and immediately jumping into Hunting Prince Dracula if you are a seasonal reader. And just give this series a try in general, I am heavily enjoying it so far.

This is going to be much shorter than most of my reviews because I don't have a lot to say. Shirahime Syo is a lesser known manga by Clamp, a talented group of female authors who also created more popular series like xxxHolic and Cardcaptor Sakura. This manga contains 3 short stories all connecting to the snow and it's princess. It is a Clamp novel that isn't that well known, so what did I think:
.
.
The art was very pretty, the stories were also very good and it really puts you into the winter vibe. But I also felt underwhelmed because the stories were too short. I think that the book should've been a bit thicker to have given some stories some more life. It wasn't what I was hoping for, it's not really the mangas fault. I think that if you are a die hard fan of Clamp then you should have it in your collection. I just didn't really enjoy it as much as I wanted to.
