When I first heard about this book I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and read it. I mean a book in which the main character joins the fight against a government that controls people, cencores the past and with that also words. That sounds so good! Also books and words are a big thing in this story so ^____^
There were many parts of this book that I really liked. Especially the thoughts of the resistance on words and how words itself make us free and give us options on what we want or can do. I honestly really loved that. It warmed my reader / writer heart reading about that.
The world had some nice twirks that helped the atmosphere in the book a lot. It was nice to read about this perfect world that then turns out isn't that perfect. The more our main character knew the more serious the whole story got as well which I strongly felt while reading. The world itself had some interesting rules. Like an artist can only be an artist when he/she is hired by the government or the banning of paper in general. The first point I gave as an example I felt was strange but quickly grew to accept it. The second example was a very logical addition to it. It gave the books in the story itself more power and I honestly was so happy to read about that secret underground library they had created to save the past and general information because of it.
The characters were okay. I had a bit of interest in them but something was missing for me to completely connect with them.
A major point I did not like was the logic of the book. While I think it's possible to change a culture and remove words within 60 to 80 years (which btw. is the ever changing time frame since the changes in that world began) I doubt that history itself could be changed that easy. Yes, school might not teach about certain parts of history and the internet would not say anything more than in class but elderly exist. They still know how it was before and I doubt that each and everyone would refuse to tell the young people about their past.
All in all I say it's a clear 3 star read for me. I enjoyed my time reading it. I'm not sure if I'll pick up the second book though. In a way yes because that cliff hanger... we'll see

I've gotten a 4 star rating after putting it through CAWPILE. It's a high 4 star rating so it's definetly close to 4.5 stars.

This book was chosen for me to read by one of my Instagram friends for the 12 months 12 people challenge. That friend and I decided to buddy read this book which made the reading experiance even better.
I really enjoyed this story. I was most excited to read about a culture I barely know about. Sadly, I feel like the world building was a bit weak. The magic system saved it for me, as that was a really nice thing to see in this story.
The characters of the story were great. I enjoyed seeing them growing from enemies to allies to even lovers. The romance, however, felt a bit rushed for me. They just suddenly were in love which... I did not like. I would have prefered a slow and subtle build up to it than the instant thing we got. Or even no romance at all but instead a good friendship instead.
All in all I enjoyed reading Woven in Moonlight

So... I really was looking forward to this book but did not enjoy it at all. I did not like the characters (especially her) which in the end lead to me not connecting with them at all. Therefore, I decided on dnfing the book after passing the 35% mark on the audiobook.
