I enjoyed this evocative horror anthology. Each story is strong and could stand independently, which speaks to Washington’s writing talent. “Take It From Me” was the clear standout from this collection and is a piece I will revisit.

Herc took a while for me to get through with its slow pace. The retellings of Hercules myths were interesting, but I think I would have enjoyed it better in the audio format. I would like to read more Greek mythology-inspired literature in the coming year.

Starling House is a gothic Beauty and the Beast retelling that takes place in a haunted house rather than a castle. While I enjoyed the story, I found the pacing of the story to be uneven, with most of the action taking place at the end of the novel. It was also out of my comfort-zone genre wise, so fantasy readers may enjoy this title more than I did!

AHB knows how to write a second chance romance like no one else! Make The Season Bright was an excellent holiday romance with dynamic, complex love interests. I also enjoyed the side characters and thought that they helped bring lightheartedness to the story. I will definitely be going back and reading other titles from this author as I really enjoyed this title.
