Where do I find the words to express this one… Reading this was like being plunged back into primary school in the most welcome way and I honestly can’t comprehend the developed and unique dystopia of this series. I want a book about every games from this point and all the little changes our tyrannical, narcissistic and yet endlessly interesting Snow implements! I love unreliable and vain narrators and watching his character development was both infuriating and enticing! CANNOT WAIT FOR THE FILM

Oh yay another book on male heroes just what we needed. Just like mythos, this was excellent in its narrative approach to the myths making them endlessly approachable, however that said I cant look past the male-centric telling of these stories. While I’ve noticed this is both books, it is impossible to ignore his dismissal and villainisation of the female characters within the myths, Fry truly embodies the male classicist perspective which I feel we’ve moved so far past. I think if this had been written maybe 30 years before it was I would like and understand its perspective more. Futhermore, from the knowledge I have this is riddled with inaccuracies (I’m no classical genius but from what I could tell Roman and Greek versions are continually confused). While I respect this as an initial introduction to these stories, I pity any who take this as the gospel truth when there is such a wider canon of myth retellings! On the other hand, as far as the audiobook goes I thoroughly enjoyed it, it feels like a series of bedtime stories that took me back to reading my kids illiad years ago, the voices create distinct and interesting characters (even when i’m not a fan of the presentation) and if i ignore the knowledge i already have i can respect and praise Fry’s writing and I appreciated the defence of Oedipus and Freud🫶

A beautiful story that captures everything I love about war literature based off the frontline, and carries the academic setting I so enjoy! I wish more had been done with elements of the plot however the quiet mystery of it all is somehow beautiful and peaceful in itself. It also gains an extra half star for the beautiful afterword by David Levithan which presents what I often feel about war narratives and their inevitable queer readings :))

LESBIANSSSS
This one felt way more like a riordanverse book, and Apollo is slowly becoming more likeable as a perspective which is also great!

OBSESSED GET ME THE NEXT ONE NOW
This is what i would call textbook fantasy dark academia! The magic system is so well developed and eternally interesting and you are consistently tossed between loving and hating every character! Leigh Bardugo an icon always 🫶

strangely didn't hate this as much as I intended to so slay I suppose?

If you are looking for a dystopian to haunt every waking moment from the moment you finish it this is the one for you… this book somehow managed to be simultaneously the most disturbing and one of the most important premises I’ve read this year. Be warned it is uncomfortable and raw taking the meat industry to a form no one can agree with and it truly questions human morality and where we draw the line!
That said, I did find it to be extremely well portrayed and I was kept on my toes the entire time which is always a bonus :))
