Thank you to Macmillan/Tordotcom for sending me an ARC of this title. I received this copy for free and this review contains my honest opinions.
A Spindle Splintered was one of my top books of last year. I loved the snarky humor, the adventurous feel, the strong female friendships, and the subversive look into some of the narratives we grow up listening to. I had high expectations going into the sequel, and unfortunately A Mirror Mended didn’t quite live up to them.
Overall I did enjoy the story, but I’m not sure this was the right choice for the second installment in this series. I felt like something was missing between where A Spindle Splintered ended and where A Mirror Mended picked up. There was still plenty of humor and sarcasm, but overall the tone seemed much darker and the characters seemed to have much less agency (even changing the POV might have helped this last point).
I really do love the concept of these books and the way Harrow address it, so I hope this series finds its stride for the third installment. Thank you again to the publisher for sending me a free ARC of this title.

While informative, this guide is 13 years old and I would look for an updated version.
