Aunty Lee's Delights

Ovidia Yu

DID NOT FINISH: 7%

The writing was approachable, but the characters just didn't work for me. Bored rich woman can't stop talking about area body discovery despite no new information. Skanky bitch wife of aforementioned woman step son thinks she is so hard done by. Seriously she is constantly scheming to steal money that doesn't belong to her. Or pushing her potentially gay husband into higher paying jobs. I couldn't find anybody to root for and kept wondering when the bitch would get murdered. It was definitely time to bail.

Wow. I'm going to take a break from these for a while. Two extremely dark installments in a row. Yikes. I've always known Nephilim to be the race of half human-half angel warriors that protect us from evil. That's not the case in this book. In this book they are the evil. So says the Mephisto Foundation. So basically this book dives deep into folie-a-deux. Creeps me right out.
emotional funny hopeful lighthearted medium-paced

Leslie Jordan's autobiography was super cute. I enjoyed hearing all about Truman Capote, straight man standoffs, and reclaiming joy post-Pulse. Jordan shares highs and lows from a life well-lived indeed. Beverly Leslie will always be one of my favorite television characters.

This one while fast to read was really hard to get through. The subject matter is very rough and very detailed. If you are not prepared for dealing with rape and child murder this book will totally fuck you over.

This book definitely qualifies for the moniker "cozy mystery". I never once felt that anything was high stakes. It was, in fact, less than compelling. Which is difficult to achieve when dealing with murder.

Rizzoli must be exhausted. Chasing after bad guys and prepping for a baby. Plus long distance husband. Maura's plot in this one hits out of left field.

It was interesting to hear from bourdain himself about some parts of his life. I would read other books by him.

This one held my attention well. It also diverged the characters more thoroughly from their TV counterparts. Lots of plot differences. I could have done without the rats though.

Starting to get more of the characters from the show appearing in this one. Hoyt's comeuppance was better in the book than it was in the show. Need more character development soon.
