I would listen to Poirot casually eviscerate everyone with facts and logic forever if I didn't want everyone around him dead
informative reflective medium-paced

Overall a good listen, but it feels... incomplete? It ends just before Ripert's career really starts, and I wanted to learn more about his later career.
adventurous informative medium-paced

I really liked Part 4 of the book and meandered through the rest of it. It's not a long book, and yet I still felt like it could have been a hundred pages shorter. Yes, I found some of the facts and strange stories interesting. Yes, I found the story of the main shootout absolutely riveting. But most of the book is a barrage of names and places, so fast it's hard to keep track of them all, very few of which end up being all that important in the long run.

Gorgeous art, adorable cozy story, I want tea
dark mysterious tense slow-paced

This is one of those nonfiction books you're sure is mostly bullshit but don't care because it's so compelling. Slowly unfolds a rich tapestry of a city with so many wild characters that you almost forget the "true crime" part.
