I had a little more trouble with this book, not because of the syndrome of the second book (I didn't find it suffered from it, on the contrary I found it quite dynamic) but rather because the story focuses on Luca and Balladaire and frankly... I don't really care about Luca. In volume 1 already my feelings towards her were quite conflicted especially from the 50% mark and unfortunately volume 2 didn't reverse the trend. However I preferred the pace of The Faithless to that of The Unbroken, it was much more engaging and I really wanted to know what happened next quickly.

As far as the story/plot goes, it's a bit of a mixed bag it feels like so much is happening with the twists and turns but at the same time... Not much happens so definitely a character driven book which is also great since I learned to appreciate the characters all the more. I was also very pleasantly surprised by Pruett's points of view, a character I appreciate more and more. She's so funny.

Another thing I really liked in these first two volumes is the way the author brings the bad decisions made by the characters and shows us that not only do they have consequences but that these consequences don't only affect them and can have a much greater impact. This is an aspect that is missing in many books and it's pretty cool to see it here.

I can't wait to read volume 3, and to see what C. L. Clark has in store for us in the conclusion of this great series!

Potential minor spoilers ?

I have mixed feelings about Touraine, I love her so much but at the same time she has a knack for making the wrong decisions when the right one is right in front of her, what are you doing Touraine?

On the other hand, I had more trouble liking Luca, whose behavior got really bad as the book went on.

I had a little trouble with their relationship which seemed to be "all or nothing" and which in my opinion went a little too fast.

On the other hand I loved following the evolution of the relationship between Jaghotai and Touraine, I hope we'll have more in the future.

I can't wait to see what volume 2 has in store for us.

This is the 3rd book in the series, but it can very well be read as a standalone (which I did). However, reading other reviews saying this is a great conclusion to the serie, I believe you should read them in order.

Arabessa, the eldest sibling and leader of the Mousai, is the protagonist. She has a history of fulfilling both family and Thief Kingdom obligations with diligence. As she is given a chance to compete for the title of Thief King, she faces a dilemma between her duties and her love for Zimri.

I really liked this book! The writing is captivating and the story is packed with adventure, magic, secrets, romance, and high stakes.  Special mention for the chemistry between the sisters that I found particularly sparkling.

This is definitely a great start of the year! Next read will be Song of the Forever Rains since I hadn't had the time to read it before the pub dat of the third book :-)

Thank you Netgalley and Montlake for providing an eARC copy in exchange for an honest review.

This 60 pages story contains a better world building than some 400 pages books.
I fell in love with Gideon, Harrow and Nona and should this one be longer I would've fell to my knees for Amy and Luce. As Tamsyn's Muir usual way it's quite confusing and complex, even when it's all revealed so I guess it's up to your preferences. If you loved Harrow The Ninth even if you didn't understand one bit, then I think you'd like this story.

Tamsyn Muir has done it again! She masters the fucked up lesbians trope <3

Thanks to netgalley and oni press for this arc!

The plot is well-crafted and keeps you guessing until the end. The artwork is also noteworthy, adding to the suspense and eerie mystery of the story. While it may not be horror, the book has a frisson of unease that adds to the tension while reading. If you enjoy science fiction with a touch of mystery, this is definitely a book worth checking out. It's a great start to the series and I look forward to reading more.

Dega promises to be a thrilling journey through a hostile alien world, but unfortunately falls short of delivering on that promise. The story feels incomplete and abrupt, leaving readers wanting more. It reads more like the first chapter of a larger novel than a standalone book. While the illustrations and concept are intriguing, the overall execution leaves something to be desired
