I don’t know, it seems maybe I’m in the minority, but I just did not find this that powerful or fun to read. I was endlessly frustrated with Sky as a protagonist and everytime the book did a “[insert word] thought Sky, a word that sounded like [insert adjective]” I was like ARGH!!
I also DO understand the prose being written in the way it was, using no quotation marks and whatnot makes it seem more as if it’s an story being told to you but an interesting concept in prose doesn’t always correlate to an enjoyable reading experience. For me, anyways, I just found it to sort of melt into itself and become this word soup I wasn’t hungry for.
I feel I’m being quite mean (oops, this professor apparently teaches at my college and I had NO idea when I picked it up. For what it's worthy my friend knows her and said she's absolutely lovely and really helpful!), there is some nice imagery at times and it’s interesting to see climate catastrophe literature. (I also went AYOOO at the Mother split into “Moth” reveal but I thought the other half would be “her” or something. Anyways.)
Idk….Storygraph was right that this was out of my comfort zone but I didn’t really enjoy it…sorry…

Me language revert to caveman after read many pretty word. Grog have no word to say.
This is a book where you can really sense a Bechdelian influence as it were, good concepts, solid art, albeit the narrative and dialogue seemed to combat more than flow, it at times felt so bleak and dark with no real sense of recovery or progress but then again that is how an eating disorder feels, doesn't it?
how does one even rate a book like this...I see the vision but alas the product lacked sauce
medium-paced
I keep grabbing random ass books off the shelf at the library, was looking for something super short I could speed through, and I didn't even process what I checked out until I got home.
Was fine I guess? I don't really want to give it a star rating tbh, but it sure is something I read. Perhaps I am some kind of psychic for picking a Christmas book at Christmas time without knowing beforehand...
Let's go lesbians, tho! Both of the characters just seemed like people who would totally exhaust me if I knew them, however.

I DON'T EVER WANT TO DO A PRESENTATION ON ANOTHER BOOK IN CLASS AGAIN ARGGGHH!!!!!
I won this book in the Storygraphs raffle so I think I owe it a review. A fair review, too. My rating is less against my entire collection of reviews but rather this particular type of book. Truth be told I do not read spicy/smut books in my reading life aside from cackling at Fifty Shades, they just don’t do much for me, but I also think the genre gets an undeserved bad rap. There is a lot of cliches and whatnot present in the genre but honestly I’d like to see anybody who complains about how awful these books are write a sex scene with decent pacing and evidence of spatial awareness. Not as easy as it sounds! I think people just hate to see women writing literature predominantly for women.
That being said this is absolutely fine for its genre and the 2.75 rating it has right now honestly seems a bit harsh in my opinion. It’s a novella so obviously we aren’t spending a lot of time fleshing out plot, but as somebody who has never read any shifter romance I was honestly just interested in how this world worked. For example it is mentioned that in the year 1877 there was a North American truth between humans and supernatural species—I absolutely need to know more about that. Is that a complete US/Canadian/Central American agreement? Do those nations exist in this world? How are pack territories recognized, do they function like Native reservations in regards to governance? I want to know but unfortunately there is no time for that, our protagonist Jasmine has three sexy wolf shifters to be snowed in with!
That being said I do actually like the emphasis on consent and I think our author Traci Lovelot (excellent name btw) is completely right by writing a “Why Choose?” Series. Cause like, honestly, why choose! These are wolf shifters in an erotica novel and why shouldn’t they be living their polyamorous best life?
Character-wise, I liked the characters just fine. They were not groundbreaking in personality or diversity but I didn’t really dislike any of them either, they are ultimately intended to be vehicles for this story and erotic scenes so that is fine for what it is. The parents of Gabriel, Garret, and Grayson are definitely crazy though because my parents can't even handle me and my sister's name starting with the same letter, they call us the wrong thing all the time. God forbid it was three of us.
Definitely was confused by some of the teasing of a sequel? Spinoff? Series? Not totally sure but you know I paid zero dollars and I got my light entertainment sitting down and reading this between things, so hey, worth the price of admission for me. If you are into shifter erotica and the like then give it a read, you’ll probably like it! As for me, I don’t think I’ll be investigating any further unless I happen to win another giveaway, in which case, I’ll be there Ms. Lovelot 🫡
