I loved this one . I thought it was going to be more of a domestic thriller but I was pleasantly surprised to find a wonderfully written story. The dual timelines were revealed steadily to help solve the mystery and even so you really still questioned who the killers were. I am a huge fan of Jennifer Hillier’s work .
New author for me and I am really looking forward to reading more from her in the future. This was a very well executed debut novel.
The story is told through alternating POV of Molly , the victim’s wife, and Rita , the primary detective on the case. Rita is brought to life so well & written in such a way that you can relate to her on many levels. She is quite likable and I hope to see her potentially investigate in future books too. Molly is not the wisest decision maker in the face of her husband’s death but I think her poor judgment can primarily be attributed to trauma and grief making a mess of her mind.
Overall I thought the pacing was great and the introduction of the intertwined stories was well carried out . The characters, the story and the scenery were all brought to life well by the authors descriptions . This is a book I would definitely recommend to others.

Dollar store find . While I didn’t actually realize that this was a collection of short stories originally I was satisfied with the results. I did hope to see the stories more intertwined than they ended up being. These could easily be stand alone short stories. For anyone wondering the only connecting factor of the stories is that each character at one time attended one particular private girls school . The first story in the collection was by far superior to the other two for me personally . While none of the other stories were bad they just didn’t have the same pacing and character development.
I enjoy each of the authors individually.

This was closer to a 3.5 for me but I’m rounding up for fairness. My biggest downfall on this one was intrigue and attention grabbing from the story . The pacing was just a bit slow and other than 1 twist it didn’t haven’t any real WOW moments for me personally. I’ve heard great things about this author so I may have to try a different work in the future . This one just felt a bit meh. The characters despite primarily being adults felt very juvenile .
This one had my head reeling at the end. The characters are the type you love to hate and yet can’t get enough of their antics. I’ve heard great things about the author and just happened across this at the Library sale . I am very happy with this find. The pacing was fabulous and kept me on my toes . The writing style is one you can’t help but devour . The story had some plot lulls for which I docked a star but overall it’s wonderful .
This was a good read. The dual timelines and multi POV were executed well. The deep dive into the cult culture was equally intriguing and sickening. I really enjoyed the authors writing style. My least favorite part was the ending though. It felt a little bit abrupt for me. I would have loved an expansion or bigger time gap from the story to the epilogue.
This is my favorite from this series so far . The tension in the story and the character development for the team was excellent. I think this one was all around a deeper emotional read too. I am definitely looking forward to reading the last book in the series .
This book has a lot of potential but fell a bit short in my opinion . Overall, the biggest downside for me was the dialogue. The vernacular used just seemed odd in places when considering the time period , setting , & ages of the characters . I did however love that it touched on the brokenness we have in our current foster system ,social service offices and the stigmas that surround the children and families in them. The story also brought to light the ease with which small town “good old boy “corrupt justice systems can operate without repercussions. The ending felt a bit jumbled and rushed in places as well. I wish there had been maybe a bit of reworking on the order certain things were brought into the story line . Personally I would have also loved more expansion towards the end on some events and less fluff of details in the beginning chapters. Overall, it was an okay read but not a 5 star for me personally .
I received this book as an advanced reader copy for free and am giving my review voluntarily for this courtesy.

Sweet , fuzzy feelings kind of novel
A cute feel good story . This was a great little coming of age story about a high school girl navigating life and love after the loss of her mother . The play on different movies and soundtracks to accentuate the fmc’s feelings was a wonderful and unique touch. I also liked the honesty of the character having to navigate her journey with grief as her life developed . It’s predictable like a movie as its title nods to but a great feel good story.
