This book has a lot of potential but it just didn’t work for me . Firstly, I think pacing was just a bit slow to keep attention. I think the running theme being nodded at about the need for nature preservation is wonderful . The personification of the trees and movements of nature as the work of the people of Rhiza was done well . The MC was hard to like for a good majority of the book. I also felt like there were details thrown in that didn’t mean anything to the story line .
Loved this one! I liked how the story played out the dual timelines . I guessed part of the “twist” but I still enjoyed how the story played out. The pacing was great . The characters were relatable . I look forward to reading more by this author.
Good read . Overall I thought it was decent . I do think it was somewhat predictable but I think it will make a great movie adaptation one day . The nostalgia of 80s/90s hangouts and habits made it more enjoyable for me personally. Not an edge of your seat thriller but slower mystery revealing itself.
Jennifer Hillier is an absolute gift to the thriller community. Yet again a 5 star read . While the main character did make me want to shake her a bit in the beginning I still found the story entertaining. The pacing was a little bit slower than other Jennifer Hillier books but still kept me wanting more. As a mom, I will admit that parts of this book will crush your soul . Just imagining how you would process such loss is tough. I didn’t see the ending coming until the last moment .
I absolutely adored this book. This was such a classic whodunnit that keeps you guessing. Following Annie and her Great Aunt Frances in dual timelines is so entertaining. This reminds me of a Nancy Drew book but all grown up . The pacing had me wanting to keep reading until every detail had been revealed and mystery solved. I am looking forward to reading the sequel to this book upon publishing .
Literally what was the point of this . A memoir in editing with the notes attached but also a weird semblance of a vampire story underlying it all. A touch of a sad coming of age story for a medically complex person that just went off the rails along the way. It could be a great nod to mental illness and obsession if it had been executed a bit differently.
I genuinely liked this book. I am not much for most romance novels due to the amount of smut seen in most of them. However I loved the balance of nerdy quirk added from the chess mastery and exploration !! The pacing was nice and the ending , despite being predictable, was a well executed close .
The twists were twisting ! This one is a bit of a slow burn but I loved it in the end. You are constantly second guessing yourself as new facts emerge throughout the story . I loved this author’s writing style and will read other works in the future.
