Now THAT'S how you finish a series! Bravo!

What a let down after such a great sequel. The things I loved about the first two books were Rowan and Citra and the story of the Scythedom. But this? This went in a wildly different direction that came out of nowhere. They were barely in any of the book! While I liked the addition of Grayson in book 2, I didn’t enjoy the new additions in book 3 quite as much. I didn’t care about all these new characters. I cared about the ones I spent two books getting to know and what happened to them! The ending felt like a cop out and left me feeling like it was the end of a different series altogether! Very disappointed. Can we get a re-do please?

4.5/5 A real joy to read! How I imagine Thelma and Louise at 17. It’s so nice to have a narrative about a person who chooses abortion and isn’t racked with guilt the entire time. The banter between Veronica and Bailey is truly that of two old friends.

I hope Hendriks and Caplan continue to team up!

*Also: Rounding up my GR rating to five stars to compensate for the pro-life reviewers who can’t stand a woman’s right to choose!

3.5/5

My favorite part of this book was Emily Wilson's introduction. The background she gave really facilitated a well-rounded understanding of the text. For instance, the bit about referring to women as dogs but without the connotation of "bitch" was helpful as that could have easily been misconstrued had I not received that information previously. Giving insight into the text's linguistic nuances as well as its history as a translation with various authors and adaptations, allowed me to keep in mind that there are multiple ways to tell this story and I admire Wilson's willingness to confront the previous translations and craft her own place in the canon.

I listened to the Audible version and while I enjoyed Claire Danes, I think this book would have been served better with a cast of readers rather than just one. Especially since there are so many storytellers within the narrative itself. I often times had to remind myself who was narrating and to whom. The audiences shift so regularly that you also have to keep in mind when, where, and why the story is being told.

As for why I docked a star and a half, I always thought that there was more to the stories of the sirens and Calypso and Circe. These all just felt like little blips that were over as soon as they started. Odysseus is also a jerk and so is his son. Yeah, he's smart but he's a trickster masquerading as a noble hero. None of this is Wilson's fault. I think Wilson saved this book for me in all honesty.

It's slowly getting better. Still not great but I'm not as annoyed as I was with Volume 1.

Good story and very important but man I'm so tired of seeing fat girls in comics being portrayed as having cute round faces, big boobs, big hips and thighs, and a TINY waist. It was distracting from the point of this comic which is upsetting considering how intriguing the concept is. Mindy is a little whiny which I get but damn all the people in her life suck. Like SUCK. But I don't think that's actually true. I think that's Mindy's perception of people around her and I would've liked that to have been a little more clear.
