A cute quick read for those of us in that limbo between childhood and adulthood.
4.5/5 Still loving the Rat Queens! Obviously now that the group is out of mortal peril, the series doesn't move as quickly as it did in volumes 1 and 2. However, the characters are still witty and lovable as before.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Tales of the Vampires: The Thrill
Vasilis Lolos, Becky Cloonan, Joss Whedon
THIS feels like Buffy. Nice twists and turns, amazing background beyond Buffy. The art is beautiful and various. I'm a big fan of this volume. Definitely will pick this up again and again.
4.0/5. Colm Tóibín has managed to break my heart, leaving me with a heavy sense of displacement. A troubling love story with a passive protagonist at its center. Tóibín manages to capture the sense of anxiety that comes with making big decisions and the feeling of uncertainty that quickly follows.
5/5 Sherman Alexie talks about being on/off the wagon a lot, so I only find it appropriate to say I'm ON the Sherman Alexie wagon.
Am I the only person who thought the plot was so lacking in this piece?? It just seemed like one violent act after another without any aim or purpose. Not the worst I've read but not easy to follow or super enjoyable.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer Omnibus, Volume 1
Christopher Golden, Scott Lobdell, Fabian Nicieza, Paul Lee, Joss Whedon, Dan Brereton
Out of the five main story lines in this volume, only three are really worth reading. Spike and Dru at the World's Fair was a bore that served no purpose and completely butchered the characters. Granted crazy Dru is difficult to portray in print, but this is messy at best. The Vegas storyline is sloppy as well. Trying to interlace two stories that really aren't that intrigued and don't move the larger story arc. And man, this dialogue is so hard to follow. Those stories aside, the origin and Buffy's return home feel more like the Buffy we know and love. Dawn's mini story in the middle is similar to a one-off but it works. It's cute and silly, and we get more of the turmoil between Joyce and Hank.
All I can say, is thank God the post-show comics got some better writers. Seasons 8+ are much more deserving of your time. But if you really want to go back and see Buffy pre-Sunnydale, it's better to start here than the movie.
