I took Never-Contented Things on my beach vacation. It was engaging and I enjoyed it a lot. Made a great beach vacation vlog. Story was told from multiple characters and gradually unfolds. It started strong and ended casually. I was expecting more action and better execution of plot. It was funny at times, with several shockers I did not expect. The book gave great backstory for each character so you understand completely their motivations, whether you agreed or not. It shows young people have a lot going on in their heads. Book centers more on Josh and Ksenia, but I wouldn't mind learning more about the various creatures and magic they possess. That seemed more interesting. It explores a lot of serious content: LGBTQ, foster care, love, low self esteem, expectations, etc. For what is was, this book could definitely have been shorter. I felt the author was dragging it on and on. I also felt at times the language was complicated to read, esp with Unselle, that my reading speed slowed down dramatically. But there is some very beautiful flowery wording. Overall, I enjoyed this book, but was expecting more. Awesome cover too.

I though Say Her Name was well written. The first person POV from the child and adult perspective was well done. This book covers several themes: identity discovery, trauma, abuse and abuse in the foster care system, racism, deception, unethical medical practices, parental selection, crime. The list goes on and on. She is very adept in incorporating many themes into her stories for maximal effect. Author did a great job of capturing very serious subject matters regarding missing females of color and the systemic racism that exists in the neglect to look for them. I have never seem this topic discussed in a book before. Although this story is set in London, the subject is still relevant in my home country of USA. The description of Eva's adoptive dad is beautiful and you can tangibly feel the love and respect she has for him. It is one to be admired. I enjoyed reading this book. Due to that, I found and read other books by here. She is very talented.

I enjoyed reading Hags, Haints and Hoodoo. I read it quickly and was engaged the entire time. Stories are dark,funny, some serious, and tense. I was disappointed when a few of these ended. It made me look up haint and hoodoo also. My favorites are Another Day in the A, Peaches, and Bluebeard. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I want to read more like it. I go through each story in my video review and it was so much fun.

Savage Indulgence is so unique. This woman definitely has unique tastes and wants the finer things in life. And it also shows that whatever plans you may make, expect the unexpected. Book is somewhat humorous, snooty, and sad at the same time. It is is a quick suspenseful read, but hints where dropped throughout the beginning which made it somewhat predictable. Still twisted though. I recommend for something unique that will hold your interest.

The Community is a great book club book. Lots of historical references, philosophies and facts. Very comprehensive. Confusing at times because the narrative mixes with the history a lot. But very informative. I think the history presented almost overshadows the author's personal story. The story itself is told well and you can sympathize with the parents and Jamiyla. The explanation for why the parents wanted to be Muslim and isolate themselves is very relatable, as well as, the feeling of betrayal felt by Jamiyla. It is humbling for parents to be able to admit their mistakes and faults. I had not previously heard of Imman Issa and I'm glad he is in prison. It's interesting you still have people that follow his teachings despite him being a horrible man.

Watersmeet is the start of an epic YA adventure fantasy series; there are 3 books total. It explains in great detail what it's like to be an outcast when you don't fit the ideal of perfect and how people can pass judgments out of fear, which allows them to be manipulated easily. Very true to life. It is fast paced, exciting, tense and sad at times. The characters are creative, unique and some are funny (like the dwarf dirty self). I loved how Watersmeet was described. Beautiful place I'd love to visit; very ideallic where everyone can live together in harmony. Wouldn't that be nice. Great read for anyone, especially younger people. Clean read, with no smut.

Scheme has a surprising ending I did not expect. Very unique. It is funny, especially when it talks about protective gear not covering your hands so luckily disability checks are electronically deposited. It is written in a very observant manner as a detective would observe. Seems like every move someone made was chronicled. The poetry examination took me back to HS. It was a good book, short and got right to the plot. I like that.

My Evil Mother leads you to interpret if the mother is evil or not. But we can all agree she loves her daughter and is protective. Just like the daughter is of her own. Book is creative and has many funny parts. Stolen penises is all I will say. Books talks about how your relationship with your mother changes over time and makes you want to give your mom a hug. I loved it. Quick, short, and entertaining with heart.

I Am Watching You is a psychological suspense about a woman who didn't act and is feeling guilty about the outcome. Characterization was great and I developed a connection with the characters. I like you got into the mindsets of a few of them. It was suspenseful and had a lot of twists. I was not expecting the ending.
Goes to show you never really know someone. That said, I thought it was long winded and dragged a bit. Overall a great book, I enjoyed reading.

Shades of AMBW is diverse, sexy, romantic, and refreshing. It is divided into 3 parts: romance, erotic, and paranormal/sci-fi/fantasy. Wide variety of stories to suit anyone's taste. In a few stories, book also tackled racism/bigotry, although very simple. Nothing hardcore. Very widespread appeal if you are open minded enough to read. This is an easy quick fun read. Definitely recommend.
