Blood Justice was a good sequel to Blood Debts. And based on this book, the story is definitely not over.  Lots of messy loose ends.  I felt this story had way more cussing and the kids are disrespectful to the adults, who do nothing.  Why?!  But I loved how they were all searching for something and going about it in their own ways.  Not the best, but still they had autonomy. I loved the expression of oppression, homophobia, and vengeance. At times, the book did take on an essayish quality though.  So why I enjoyed this story, I didn’t love it and will end the series for me right here.  It has great promise for a continued good time though.  Oh, and I love “sometimes violence is the answer.”  Facts.  #NetgalleyArc

Dead Cat Tail Assassins was a wild ride with the undead, gods, intricate world building and lots of violence. The insults and trash talk during the fights was so entertaining too.  The book spends a lot of the ending going over the law, which reminded me of the nuances of legal interpretation in courtrooms.  Can’t say I enjoyed that part.  Overall an entertaining read that I liked, but didn’t love. #netgalleyARC

Delicious Monsters was a fun squeamish time.  I loved the story of the haunted house, Daisy seeing dead people, and all the connections between people.  I hated all the mamas; they have failed their children big time.  The dual POV was well done and appropriate for this book.  Pacing was slow but very adequate.  I enjoyed the story.  The maggot details creeped me out.  Ugh, I hate them.

I enjoyed So Let Them Burn.  It reads very YA, with some sassy characters.  I really felt emotional for the the main characters Faron and Elara for having gone through war with all the pressure on their shoulders, being children themselves.  It is unfortunate those scars are all too real for children in some countries.  This plot was fun, suspenseful, and surprising.  I loved the dragon elements and the wielding of magic by your ancestors.  Awesome, wish I could do that.  And the bond beyond the sisters was beautiful.  I found it very interesting both main black girls fell for white people.  And also I felt the cussing was odd because it started at about halfway.  It just seems misplaced.  The ending is a bit of a cliff hanger, so I was a bit disappointed with that.  But overall, I enjoyed this story.  

I didn’t like the metaphoric and roundabout prose and there are too many characters.  The cover is cool though

 I loved The Bandit Queens.  The plot is fun, but it has so many other themes going on.  Toxic cultural practices, the slow transformation of some of those practices and people’s reluctance to want to change, abusive spouses, Indian beliefs, the caste system, female empowerment, village life, substance abuse.  All that rolled into a great story with lots of comedy.  I am thoroughly impressed with this book and had a great time reading it. 

Ghost Roast is a fun middle grade comic.  I loved it was written by 2 black sisters and the illustrator is a woman from India.  Minority girl power.  The story is cute and so age appropriate.  It tackles restoration of old slave plantations, slavery and the dirty secrets they house.  I loved the diversity of the characters and the kids, just being bratty kids.  Very real and honest.  Great story.

Medusa’s Remedy was awesome and well done.  It had action, deep cutting trash talk, sexiness, and still an emotional vulnerability.  It put me through my emotions with Athena for sure.  Girl, we ladies need to stick together.  And Poseiden is thirsty (haha).  Now I only know a few basics about Greek mythology and I was still able to get into this story.  Well done. 

Dangerously Mine was a fun time.  I like the aliens coming to earth angle and the fiestyness of Eva.  However, the sex was quick when she met Taio.  I mean she act like she was desperate soon as he offered her some because it had been 3 years.  That said, the intimacy scenes were fire. I was annoyed she kept referring to herself as a slave when she was repeatedly told she was not.  And the whole jealousy thing was juvenile. Her and Taio need to grow up.  But I do like how she wanted to assert her independence and didn’t back down from a fight with dudes bigger than her. Overall, I did enjoy the story though.

Nighthawk is a wild ride of violence, gore, suspense, mystery, and comedy.  I like how it ties in a superhero with real world issues such as racism, manipulation of African Americans and gentrification.  And I like Nighthawk isn't all good or all bad. Some would say he off the rails bad, but I like him. Overall, I liked the story. but it would have been nice to know who Revelator is.  But does it matter.  He's fed up, just like the rest of us.
