Chris writes with an unparalled candor and humor. Truly appreciate this one.
This was incredibly informative and inspiring--a history of sorts, tracing the connections between queerness and spirituality.
I can see why people like this but it reads as if it's an incredibly long parable in the Bible... too on the nose and too instructive.
Read this at the recommendation of someone I really like and can say I definitely enjoyed. It's surprisingly quick for such a serious subject matter, but Kidd's writing draws you in to the lives of the characters. In a lot of novels like this, the white character becomes a sort of "white savior" archetype and I didn't see that here--Sarah grew into a person aware of her faults and shortcomings, looking to lift up the voices of those she fought for. Truly inspiring. In the character of Handful, Kidd created someone filled with resilience and intelligence, compassion and spirit.
Hardly have the words to describe my love and adoration for this story. I'm crying in my childhood bedroom.
Delightfully creepy and filled with religious allusions and allegory.
I remember liking this book when I first read it and I liked it again when reading it. I'm excited to keep reading this series and seeing where it goes.
