The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd
4.0

Read this at the recommendation of someone I really like and can say I definitely enjoyed. It's surprisingly quick for such a serious subject matter, but Kidd's writing draws you in to the lives of the characters. In a lot of novels like this, the white character becomes a sort of "white savior" archetype and I didn't see that here--Sarah grew into a person aware of her faults and shortcomings, looking to lift up the voices of those she fought for. Truly inspiring. In the character of Handful, Kidd created someone filled with resilience and intelligence, compassion and spirit.
