A light, easy read that explored cassette culture from past to present with plenty of excellent interviews, art, and design elements for curious readers and fans of the format. Basically an indie kid’s coffee table book - and I mean that positively.

The book that single-handedly got me to take comic books seriously as an artist format.

Like "Catch-22", this book absolutely rocks its dry wit wrapped up in meta-narratives. And also like that book, you will wonder where the funny parts went as the poignancy begins to hit. Even with the butthole drawings (both those of and drawn by).

Carl Sagan's writing is extraordinary for a reason - and few science authors have captured a similar level of passion, excitement, and pathos for the subject like him. Not to mention the artwork and diagrams are immaculately chosen.

Worth reading to understand the concept of "white fragility" in the current conversation of race, racism, and civil rights. This is despite DiAngelo's argument being circular and unfalsifiable - though she'd likely dismiss any criticism as being an example of white fragility instead of a part of the same conversation.

A wonderful discussion of the history of "chaos" in mathematics and science - and not at all aged given its release date. Complicated, but accessible - and written by a science author who knows both science and authorship.

A young woman experiences some of the most difficult to describe events in urban America, to the extent where writing them here would be a trite disservice.

Regardless of your opinion on the writing (is it extraordinarily evocative, or obfuscatingly esoteric?), this book *will* make you think differently both about trees and environmentalism. The opening vignettes are the best part; the characters themselves are archetypes and stereotypes.

A "low cultural manifesto" of essays from one of the most famous indie kids. Two-thirds of this has aged horribly; Klosterman became an infinitely better and less stuck-up author with time. Yet some passages - such as the "Real World" essay - remain as poignant as ever, if not more so in today's world where a reality TV star became president.

An absolute classic of German literature - and for good reason. This edition is imminently readable for laypersons and anyone interested in theatre.
