everyone needs to read this. especially if you don't yet understand what intersectionality means.

this book is so trashy. most of it is so bad it’s funny, but some parts are just uncomfortable. sookie seemed so naive that it was hard to read at some points. the only reason this isn’t a one star is that I like the setting and tone. I definitely won’t pick up the rest of this series!

Each one of these stories was so creepy. There were a few truly stellar ones (my favorites being Louisa Please Come Home, The Bus, Home, and A Visit), as in every collection. But, because this is Shirley Jackson, even the ones that didn't blow me away were still incredibly crafted and well-written. I liked this one more than the other short story collection of hers that I've read, because this one focused more on the outright creepy and horrific short stories. This would be a great Halloween read.

Really predictable but still fun to read because of Ruth Ware’s writing.
