You could tell that this book was written by a former prosecutor. Landay took his knowledge of the trial process and used it to his advantage, using details to fully flesh out the story. I expected this to be another tired legal thriller or murder mystery, but I honestly couldn't put this book down. I loved the family dynamic between the Barbers, and it was fascinating to read about Jacob's sociopathy through the lens of his unreliable narrator father.
