This was a really in depth view of Jesus's call to be a peacemaker. I loved how this was so rooted in scripture and went into so much depth to contextualize the story of Holy Week. I also really loved the concrete suggestions about how a Christian peacemaker behaves and thinks. I learned a lot. The only drawback I would say is that I wish the discussion questions were throughout the book rather than at the end. I also think it could have been designed better for people reading it individually rather than in a group discussion. Despite that, I really found this book insightful. It is extremely relevant to the injustice and oppression in today's world and would make a great gift for anyone looking to follow Jesus' example.

This one started out slow for me, but by the halfway point I couldn't put it down. It's now on my top reads list of 2021. Light Years From Home might seem like a straightforward sci-fi adventure about a man who returns to Earth after being abducted by aliens, but at its core it is a family drama. It blends sibling rivalry and relationships, epic space opera, and crime thriller effortlessly in a way that is still lighthearted and fun. Mike Chen is a real gift! Evie has my entire heart but I loved how Kass, Jakob, and Evie were all flawed but still lovable. I would recommend this one for everyone, but especially for people who might feel intimidated by a more traditional science fiction novel. Can't wait to read the rest of this author's backlist.

This book was extremely readable. V Castro has such a unique voice in the horror genre. This anthology blends horror, erotica, the Chicana experience, and the supernatural all together in a way that is totally new. As always with anthologies, some stories landed better than others. For me, the standouts were "Pentagram Peep Show," "Night of the Living Dead Chola," and "The Latin Queens of Mictlan," but every story had a lot to say and a unique twist. I wish this anthology was longer or that some of the stories were a little longer, but the short story length made it a very fast read. Highly recommend if you're looking for an authentic voice in the genre.

I love this slice of Aya and her friends and family's life. I genuinely looked forward to reading it every day, and the characters felt like my own friends and family by the end. Very unique art style and wonderful character building.
