The premise of this one had me hooked. She's a witch, he's a demon prince cursed to spend his days as a cat. He's on a mission to
kidnap her sister and bring her to his brother, the Crown Prince of Demon-dom
, she runs a bakery with her younger sister in a witchy town. So much could have been done with this, but it feels like it fell a bit short of its potential for me. Give me more of the demon realm, let me meet more of the witches in Willow's coven, show us more about Damien's past. It felt very surface level. And once we got to the steam? It feels like that's alllllll we talked about from that moment on. The characters lost all their depth and just repeating "little witch" and "my demon" over and over and over again.
He keeps repeating that he isn't good enough for her, that he's too dark and twisty for this sunshiney "little witch" but we learn NOTHING about him or why he's dark and twisty. We know his mom died, and we get a hint that he was involved or there or something (??), but nothing else. We know that he is an errand boy for his brother and that he resents it, but other than fetching Luna, what does he do?? Is he brother a bad guy?? We never find out! Also who was the witch that cursed him??? I just have so many questions still and all I know is that Willow has a slight exhibitionist kink.

The first 40% was honestly on the right track, but once we got into the physical side of their relationship (and focused on nothing else), I had to force myself to push through in the hopes that I got the depth that I wanted. And excuse me,
Luna was struggling with her life's direction and her sister didn't even know???? Literally how. Get your head out of your boyfriend's existence and actually talk to her, for the love of the Goddess.
I just have a lot of thoughts and feelings.

All of that to say, I think this is still going to be a great read for people who don't want a whole background and world-building and just want a little steamy Halloween romance. To I recommend this one to: anyone wanting a light, steamy, Halloweeny palette cleanser; those that wear orange polka dotted dresses in October unironically; pumpkin flavor enthusiasts; cat people that believe black cats are lucky.

I picked this one up after Coley's bookish sock set subscription for August showed up, I just KNEW I needed to read this one. Coley's colorway paired grapefruit pink and lemon yellow and just screamed SAM at me, so here we are. And now I think I've got a new go-to book recommendation!

This book checked every box for me. Our FMC, Clementine (side note: what are the odds I read two books back to back with a FMC named Clementine???), is decidedly not perfect. Her imperfections are executed in such a way that she feels relatable and not just an unapproachable mess. She's vulnerable and real with emotions that just suck you into the page. Then enters Iwan (which I've been reading as Ian in my head when I know it's yoo-uhn okay) and he's even better than I could have imagined. His little tiny tattoos make me just so stinking happy.

I wasn't anticipating a magic twist, but that's what I get for going into a book completely blind and based 100% on a mood board. That being said, I think not knowing about the magic made it that much better.

I recommend this book to: the messiest parts of ourselves, blankie enthusiasts, everyone who appreciates a really good hug, anyone needing a reminder that they're worthy of love and happiness and fulfillment, foodies who find eating to be emotional and borderline transcendent, believers in a perfect meal, and the wanderers.

A Highlander for Hannah

Mary Warren

DID NOT FINISH: 15%

Something about the writing and I aren't vibing. It feels stilted, and Hannah doesn't feel...real. On paper (heh, get it), she should be extremely relatable for me. She's plus sized, she wants to change to a slower life from her fast-paced, over achieving life in a job that doesn't appreciate her with a loser of a boyfriend. But her thoughts come across as whiny instead of observant and I just...have no desire to finish this one.

I don't know, I just couldn't get into the mafia situation. I loved the first book, and remember finding it incredibly funny. But this just...missed the mark for me.

I should probably wait until I'm feeling more emotionally stable to write any sort of review, but Chapter 26 and the epilogue had me gross crying in the car while I listened to the audiobook. This book is there perfect level of nerdy - nerdy enough for nerds, but not too nerdy if nerdy isn't your vibe.

A banter-filled forced proximity love story, you should read this book if: science was your favorite class in high school or you destroyed the curve in your stay class, Thai food is your happy place, you believe in soulmates, you DON'T believe in soulmates, or you're used to always being the best friend but never the heroine.

Molly continues to charm, and I continue to adore her. The growth she shows and the acceptance she has for herself warms my heart, and I loved that this sequel shed light on Molly's childhood as well.

If you want a cozy mystery with a side of pride in the heroine and a heaping serving of quirky characters, dive right on in.

I don't know guys, this just wasn't for me. The writing and I didn't vibe, and apparently exhibition isn't my thing at all. If this book had just been the modern retelling of Hades and Persephone with more of a focus on the politicking and drama I think I would have liked it more, but instead it came across as...I don't know, fanfic written by someone who took one semester of Greek Mythology or something. I'm so glad other people love it, but I'm not one of them.

I...I don't know where to begin. I went in with nonexistent expectations. So whatever I just read, it was not what I anticipated reading. It was...a lot to unpack, but in a good way? The prose was beautiful, the characters were multifaceted. Michael was a fascinating narrator, and unreliable at times. Bunny was the opposite of what I was prepared for.

This is one of those books that I'm thrilled to have read, but I'm not sure I'd be able to read it again.
