Slow start, sort of interesting ending, no idea where it's going with the story and how it's all going to work out.

Not sure how I feel about this book. Introduces a whole set of new characters but not enough time to get attched to them to be invested in what happens. Weird serious moments that feel rushed and odd comic relief moments that feel really out of place.

Sort of a spoiler:
In the first book they fell in love easily and quickly and Aria threw her whole life a way for boy she only just met and there was no real reason why Hunter loved her so much.
In this book we finally see her question why and to question how deep and real their love is and is it worth everything that's happened to them and what needs to happen to save the city.

I think the writing has improved from the first book but admittedly I mostly skimmed it. I hadn't planned on reading it but I found myself constantly wondering "what will Kitt do?"

2 stars for the long boring body of the book, way too much back and forth and repetitiveness and ohmygid theres the fanfic feel again

3.5 stars for the last few pages, damn cliffhanger will probably have me reading the next book even though I already half can't be bothered... I am developing a not-quite-love/not-quite-hate relationship with this series

Starts of slow and oh so cliche, felt like pieces of a lot of other popluar fantasy books but it does get better and by the end very surprising and satisfying, the plot finds it's originality and intrigue, good cliffhanger too

The audio book is especially good, the narrator does a great job with the different character voices and is very pleasent to listen to if you love british and irish accents.

Big thumbs up for the plot, the characters, the writing, the whole thing is an excellent read for this genre 👍

Beware the tearjerking epilogue.. 🥲

It's okay for what it is, a YA dystopian.
Yes the MFC is naive, she's a sheltered teenager, it's realistic.
If you don't go into it expecting the next hunger games it's a perfectly enjoyable read.

If you love inner monologueing and excessive detail this is for you, if not you can skim and just read the italics because the end is still good even if it takes a really long time to get there.
This is my least fave of Pip's books but not a bad book all in all

Worth the read for something different, good writing 👍

A little slow in parts with some interesting and sudden plot developements, though I felt like the ending was a little open to interpretation?
